A Jewish friend of mine in London posted a picture on Facebook last night, of a lone candle on a coffee table. I posted, is that for the fallen in Gaza? That's one less Facebook friend.
That's not the point though. Calling someone "German" because they're ancestors were German over a century ago is racist, they're British whether we like it or not. George V was British as well, your point has no credibility.
It wasn't the the royals who urged Europe to war, it was the obligations of the co-operation pacts that ironically enough had been drawn up to protect Europe's nations against war that escalated a minor spat into the pan European disaster it became.
it was only a jovial comment , dont take offense to two words picked out of a long rant - eh ! but for further reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha and before that the Hanover Kings were proper german , you say " born and raised in Britain for over a hundred years yet they're still considered German " yet it was a hundred yrs ago the great war kicked off ! as a side look where Queen Victoria and Prince Alberts kids lineage took them - they are all as German as a pair of silly shorts and braces
my point was up until the great war , the royal family was far more German than British , - afterall that is the context of the thread -
I was watching a film (fact based)the other week and it was general Moltke and his side kicks that forced the Great War because they didn't want to show weakness in Germany/Europe What a ridiculous waste
My lights have just gone off almost 24 hours late, but not by choice. FFS. Engineer on his way supposedly.
George V was born in Britain, as was Queen Victoria. Their ancestry means f** all, they're as British as you or I. I know the House of Hanover and the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha were German dynasties, we've had royal dynasties from all over Europe. What would you constitute as English/British? We've had Anglo-Saxons (Germans), Danes, Norwegians, Normans, Franks, Welsh, Scottish, Dutch and Germans as our royalty.
