So my view on the Book Thief, thought it was a really good film and a great performance by Sophie whatsherface (Linsey or something? I'm sure it begins with an L).

On Film 2014 (a weekly film review programme), they criticised it for being all sugar-coated and all the Nazis being lovey-dovey and so on. I reject this notion. For example, the scene with the school children in Nazi uniforms sing an anti-semetic song as Crystalnacht unfolds was quite chilling. In addition, there is the the obvious manipulation of patriotic fervour during the book burning scene as well as the underlying fear of reprisal for not conforming to the National Socialist agenda. Just because it's not explicit doesn't mean isn't there.

Also, I liked the fact that it provided a German perspective on WW2. The only other film I've seen like that is Der Untergang so it's a refreshing change. I think sometimes people in this country forget that the German civilian population suffered horribly as well, and 99% of Germans were ordinary people just trying to get by and suffered the same fear and heartbreak as people in Britain or wherever.

I'm sure there will be people who feel the same way, who'll actually do it.

I have done something truly memorable. I've dug out my old copy of Curse of Monkey Island, done a bit of jiggery-pokery with a couple of SCUMMVM Android apps, and installed it on my S2, and the game looks excellent. Now, can I remember how it goes..?

Can't wait to tell Palido Domingo how pale he looks.

Spent a little time last night looking at the progress of the 3 Cunard Queen ships now in service, after watching a programme about the QE2 on BBC4. Would you believe it, but Queen Mary 2 sails into the very vicinity within the next few days. No doubt, passengers will be at the rails with their binoculars.

Controversially, I think that Gove is a good politician based on his appearances on Question Time and interviews, but he isn't great at running education. I appreciate that he's raising standards, but restricting resits and trebling tuition fees haven't gone down well.

Basically, and I wish I could express this more obviously than basically but I can't, the only good thing Mr Gove has ever done politically is to criticise 'The Eton Enclave'. The Man, in my view, is an offence to all things decent in terms of offering an equal chance to all. I sincerely wish he and Mr Hunt who currently has responsibility in dismantling the NHS get together with Mr Osborne, (he of the let's give everybody over 55 more opportunity to cash in and sod the 16-24 generation, because the over 55s vote), find the Mary Celeste and disappear, because in the 63 years of my life I have never ever a met a more despicable bunch of self interested chancers. May they rot in whatever spiritual construct you and yours have developed for the incarceration of all that I believe to be evil. Other than that they are obviously very nice people doing their best to ensure public services serve the public not.

That annoyed me actually. Leave that classist claptrap to the Labour party. I don't care one iota what school a particular politician may or may not have gone to. Going to Eton doesn't make anyone more or less qualified to be a politician, neither does going to a comprehensive school. Likewise, being 'out of touch' isn't necessarily a result of going to Eton. I think a bigger problem is career politicians rather than whether or not they went to Eton.

Though I agree with everything else you said :)

Here's a very old joke told to me by an Ofsted Inspector...

What's the difference between an Ofsted Inspector and a plastic surgeon?...

Answer: A plastic surgeon 'Tucks up Features'.

LETS STOP POLITICIANS COUNTING THINGS THAT DON'T COUNT... The real world is much more interesting..

I would like Labour more if they represented the working class and if they had fewer "champagne socialists".

A ****ing useless, nerdy little prat and hasn't a clue what he is doing is what came immediately to my mind. He is the sort of bloke who every time you see him you want to punch him on the nose he is that obnoxious.

All Gove is interested in is his self promotion as he thinks he has the ability to be PM one day. All his so called initiatives are designed to get him headlines and are not for the benefit of our children.

This man is destroying education and ruining our children's lives.

For education most people see as the benchmark of modern thinking on teaching and school management just take a look at what is happening in Finland. It is the complete antithesis of Gove's Neanderthal educational ideology.

What I find so astonishing is that all these yummy mummy types and all the parents who want the best for their children will accept from the Secretary of State for Education some of the cruellest suggestions for their children in the name of education.

Thank goodness I went to school in more enlightened times. I am ashamed at the way our children are treated by today's education system.

Godders, I think you'll find a lot of those "yummy mummies" don't like it, but don't have much choice. Yes they can use their vote, but what does that do for today.. Nowt!
