As I don't know who Blackmore talked to, I'd rather believe the person I have talked to. It could simply be two people have a different take on it. Who know's tho?
Indeed it could be two honest interpretations of the same statement. Neither necessarily contradicts the other.
Just have to wait and see. Hopefully she sanctions a transfer deal this month to prove everyone is wrong?
I'm in the 95% too but I see it very much along the lines of taking off Lambert and putting Osvaldo on. You replace quality with quality. Part of me still wants Cortese to come back with new owners but if he wont accept standard business governance arrangements as Katharina is seeking then I can't see even the new owner giving him carte blanche. If it was your money, would you be happy for him making ALL the decisions with no say from you? It was a tweet from a staff meeting this morning. Leibherrs have indicated there will be no sale for now (blows my theory about Cortese out of the water if true), And that they will continue "on the same path as before". Sounds positive enough to me. The main reassuring noise I have heard so far is that Pochettino and players are all staying and still seem to have that strong bond. So onward and upward I reckon.
Wouldn't that be nice? But I suspect we'll have to wait til summer to find out which way that wind is gonna blow. As it stands I'll settle for no-one leaving in January.
I know it was Blackmore saying what a staff member has said but so was my post a staff member saying what he heard.
Don't think we were getting anyone new in before Nicola left, so nothing changed. Of course if Nicola had planned to leave for some months (as some think) he would be unlikely to spend (or be allowed to spend) in this window. No need to spend unless a long time target became available..we are going to finish midtable whatever we do.
Unless you get a direct transcript there will always be some variation in what people hear...basically, don't panic and carry on.
The difference between Saints and say Cardiff is that Saints is a business, within a very very large portfolio of businesses, whereas Cardiff appears to be the plaything of a very very rich individual. A rich individual can make whatever decisions they want - change completely the colour of the home strip, sack a popular manager with only himself to answer to. As CEO of a company you need to answer to the owner, and ultimately your shareholders. Companies are expected to be run under fairly strict rules covering all aspects of Governance. Nicola did act like he was the owner, and I was 100% happy with this as he always seemed to have the blessing of Saint Markus. I looks very likely that the blessed Katherina is expecting the CEO of Southampton FC to answer to her, the owner and the main board of directors - I guess she looks upon that CEO as a " departmental head" Nicola, being used to absolute autonomy appears not to be too happy with that. He flexed his muscles once and was allowed to continue as virtual dictator, perhaps when he tried it a second time it did not work. If KL says that the club is not for sale, then I believe her. I had absolute faith in NC, and ML, and KL has continued to fund the "vision" even after her fathers shock death. She is now in charge of a very large business, and I feel sure that this would not be the case if Saint Markus felt she was not up to the task. She looks the spitting image of her father, so why cant she also have his business acumen. I was sorry to see Nicola leave, as I felt he was able to drive the club forward, but this club is more than the owner, more than a manager and more than any player. We continued when Ted Bates retired, when Lawrie left, when Ron Davies, Kevin keegan, Mickie Channon and MLT left. We survived when Pardew went, when Adkins was sacked. We survived when Lowe took us public, when Wilde came in, when Lowe came again and took us to the brink of extinction, and guess what........ we will also survive the loss of our much admired Executive Chairman. IN KL and MP WE TRUST!!
Our starting point should be based on what Nicola Cortese said upon his departure, absolutely nothing, just like a lot of what he has said since he has been here, actions speak louder than words, but it would be handy if words explained the actions. I see lots of opinions about what has gone on and much is probably correct, but equally could be totally wrong because you have no clear evidence either way. Saying things in an authorative way when you haven't actually got a clue is useless. So without the benefit of hindsight, our options are to take only what we have at present and seek what is happening in the future, happy in the knowledge that we are basically in good shape, good hands and the spirit of Markus Liebherr is still with us in the shape of his daughter, who so far has said all the right things, only time will tell, but we have to believe, there is no alternative.
Onwards yep and that's see about upwards. I am glad we are a stable club and seem to be getting a good ceo. So it's been handled great so far. We will have to wait and see if it is upwards.
I know you know that Blackmore was quoting a staff Member as I'm sure you know I know you were quoting another staff member. But there are other who do not necessarily know you know what I know and others who don't know I know what you know. I just wanted to make it clear.
This is incredibly patronising to Cardiff, who have all the same corporate structures that we have, and rather naive. If Ms Liebherr wanted to, there's nothing at all to stop her from being just as radical as Tan.
Or if 32000 of us stump up £5468.75 each we could all mount a bid and become fan owned like our friends up the road....
Seems like KL was around during that whole time as well. I'm not diminishing what Cortese accomplished at all. But ultimately, everything that he did was approved in some way by KL as she was the one writing the checks. His vision is nothing without her backing. Other than blaming her for possible driving Cortese out (which we have no idea what actually happened) what has she done wrong since she's owned the club? If you had asked us whether KL was a good owner or not two weeks ago, I'm sure 95% would have said that yes, she's fantastic. As to why she drove him out-- who says she did? It's not hard to imagine-- even for those who admire Cortese-- that he's a bit of a control freak might sometimes have trouble being told "No." even when the response is reasonable. I mean, we LIKED him because he was rather unreasonable. It would have been great if both she and NC had been able to continue to work together. I don't know what happened to make that impossible, but I can't blame either side given the scant few facts available. Something seems to have changed. One theory was that KL no longer wanted to own the club, which would have meant we lost both NC and KL. The fact that KL purportedly wants to keep the club is good news, because in my mind, having one of those two still here is better than having neither of them. So this "path we're on," or vision or whathaveyou has to come from the owner first. It might not be easy to find someone as capable of carrying it out as NC, but at least we have some assurance we're still going to try.
