Only you know what stage you’re at. So long as you control it, that’s fine. When it controls you, then you’ve got a problem!
That's quality mate If you don't mind me asking how long were you drinking for and presumably it was quite heavy?
That's the line that I've been kidding myself for two years that I could pull myself away from when I got close and now I'm well past it
Best knock it on the head for a while then mate. If you get to the stage where you can’t have one or two beers and then walk away, or can’t let a day go by without alcohol, it’s time to give it a rest until you feel you can control it. If you’re one of those unfortunate people that one drink is too many and a hundred isn’t enough, it’s best to quit altogether.
Working in the City meant drinking often and often heavily. Then I had a health scare which had nothing to do with drinking, but enough of a scare to make me take stock. So gave up booze and ***s on same day. I now only drink alcohol free: lagers - loads now available, Heineken or Stella Artois are very good. beers - nanny state or similar i get them from Tesco’s or online at alcohol free.co.uk Gin - Seedlip alcohol free gin is very good, and so is Tesco’s version of Gin and Tonic in a can. Pros - this way I can still have a drink, feel like I’m actually normal as it acts like a placebo in that you do feel pissed, can drink all night and no hangovers Cons - always designated driver, holder of whip etc, and no excuse if you pull an ugly bird
I've always rejected the idea of non alcoholic beer but had never consider the placebo side of it. Think id like it on a hot summers day but can't see it having the same effect in a pub.
Best of luck to ya, Libby. I’ve done similar. I’m only 28 now but when I was 20-21 I got in loads of trouble at football mainly because of alcohol, also typically had rows at clubs/ bars/ pubs because of booze as well. I ended up getting a two year away game ban from Spurs (was intially home and away but had friends who knew people at the club that vouched for me) and it was that moment I realised I was just being a ****ing idiot. Ended up putting myself on a drinking ban (well, me Mum made me do it as well ), didn’t really set myself a time frame but done exactly 6 months. As silly as it sounds it worked, mate. Apart from the odd argument I haven’t really been in any trouble since, both in and outside of football. Still drink like a trooper but nowhere near as stupid when drunk as I was back then.
Not sure...Pompey chose a charity. Libby needs to get on top of it because I don't know how to go about paying..but we need to pay or it takes piss.
I once gave up drinking for about 6 weeks. Realised that basically my entire social life revolves around alcohol when I didn’t leave my house for the entire time except for work and exercise. I know lots of people who used to act like right ****s when they were pissed. Their solution was just to sniff on a night out as it sobers you up, seemed to work.
