Nige had six more points last season at this stage of the season with depleted squad.

what do you say to that after being given a war chest this season.

I looked it up and we had 12 points after 8 games last season, we lost to Leicester 1-0 I believe
 
when doing comparisons it is always better to do a wider picture teams /quality/ etc varies also late starters early starter & v opposition quality
there may 3 or 4 teams that have better quality/ start that a team might be unlucky to come against in a period of 6- 8 games!


after 8 games 2023 v 8 games 2024
team in 15th was Southampton on 10 points ... team in 15th now = Stoke on 9pts ... 13th City 0n 10 pts 11th 12th on 11pts
in 10th place was Millwall on 11 points 12 pts
Hull .. City ... Birmingham were on 12pts 7th / 8th / 9th 14 13 12pts
Sunderland .... Leeds Norwich were on 13 pts 4th / 5th / 6th 16 15 15pts
3rd were PNE on 20pts 7 point difference 16 pts
Leics and Ipswich were level on 21 points 18 points

I don’t know ANYONE on here who actually WANTED Nige sacked.
BUT - he was bloody close - the West Brom game was a pivotal point where people were seriously doubting him. Myself included.
His football was NOT great. Last minute goal giveaways became our trademark. The opposition knew this and the 80th minute became terrifying for us. We had the dubious honour of giving away the most goals after 90 minutes than any team in the top 4 professional leagues - under NIGE.
On a personal opinion note I found our football boring under Nige and I couldn’t work out what his shape or style was.
Nige has gone. His sacking was harsh and unexpected but gone he is.
Nige is now mentioned almost as often as LJ. They are mirror images of each other (except LJ managed higher league positions of course).
Harping back to Nige is simply harping back to a different brand of mid table championship football. It won’t bring him back.
I support Manning now. Yu looks good. Armstrong is exact what the QPR fans warned us about. I’ve not seen enough of Fally or Earthy to form an opinion - and Dickie is injured, so there’s plenty of room to evolve.

Would Pearson have won last night 6-0 - or even 1-0?
Nobody will ever know. From his past record SW may even have nicked a winner in the 93rd minute.
If my granny had balls……..

Agree, moving on though and judging LM on his own merits, given the money and backing he’s had he should be doing better, we’ve not yet played the so called better teams and his style of possession based football is boring.
The comparison to this time last season is a fair one imo. For the reasons I’ve given.

Very well said, BCFC! Too many on here have seriously rose-tinted glasses regarding Nige. Our football was very poor at times, especially for such an experienced manager.
Nige was definitely an upgrade on DH. LM needs more time to see what he can do. The play is still far from perfect, but at least you can see the style and identity of the football he wants to play, even if, as we all know, it's not quite there yet. Personally, I never saw that under Nige; he constantly played players out of position (something people on here hammer LM for); one match, Weimann would be upfront alongside Semenyo, causing havoc in opposition defences; the next match, he was RB, seriously,, wtf...

I don’t think win rate or results was the reason Pearson was sacked, so I don’t think these stats put much pressure on Manning at all.
TBH I don’t know exactly why Pearson was sacked but it wasn’t for results - if it was simply about results then he should have been sacked after the West Brom game, when it could have been justified.
There was a different agenda at play there methinks.

Manning should be on borrowed time with his poor record at City, especially with such investment this summer..........but he won't.
Until then we must hope for an upturn but it'll be dire to watch.

I agree, but that was the reason given, that’s the point. They’ve made a rock for their own back.

what type of rock? ...gneiss basalt limestone quartzite granite hornblende .................

stats stats using small samples is always dodgy because 1 can mak a big difference
ie 2 of 8 = 25% ........ 3 of 9 = 33% ..........4 of ten =

2 of 10 = 20% ........... juggle your own !!!! how many from how many. probably around 20 it gives a more accurate %

as opposed to win% how about lose % LM this season only lost 25% so undefeated in 75%
 
Please can we stop calling people "Luvvies" if they do not want the manager to be sacked - it does not help the argument
Football is about opinions - people are allowed to have a different view without juvenile name calling (rant over!!)
My view is that constantly chopping and changing does not work - if you look back on here I said that about people from Millen to LJ to now Manning
I want to see how this turns out - for me we could still get top 6 and could still go down. The squad has had major changes and I'm not convinced its bedded in yet.

Nige was on a different "brief" which he "in the eyes of the club" succeeded in achieving. But a number of things health/ attitude/etc interfered with his tenure. When he first arrived he nade a statement about "call me coach/ manager" I have come here to do a job. Its possible he fell into the trap he did at Leicester on one of his tenures! What he did what he achieved is now history all part of the fabric of ASHTON GATE history
It is great we can use stats as yardsticks but need to always look at the bigger picture ,, each season is different ..has 6 new teams, the 24 teams will already be "graded to quality before the season starts [ so some are stronger / weaker ] the fixture list can be cruel or kind, some weaker teams can excel, stronger teams take off like lead balloons and succumb to teams that may eventual be in bottom 8!
it is good on here we can see different opinions and different approach's to the same "thing"...............

there is a saying ...if your wit was sh*t and didnt smell you could use it as toothpaste .. I first heard that in 1961, during a working holiday period [school ] on a farm in Brislington! it was relative to poor jokes or sarcasm! .......... at the time I was helping clear out an empty farm cess pit!

So, the vastly experienced ‘best manager’ we’ve ever had, according to some, had a 0.2% better win percentage than a young up and coming manager…. Says it all really!!
