I am 29 and Southamption have been **** for as long as I can remember, they were **** in the Prem for a bit, but at no point were they ever good, I am sure they wouldnt try and trade on their history as you would be going back some to find sucsess.

Matt Le Tissier scored some pretty tasty goals for a big nosed fat bloke though.

Bleeding hell mate, calm down! The point you make is true,we were **** in the premier league but there is alot to be proud of in being **** in the best league in the wrold and still surviving in it for 27 years on 15,000 gates! Just think what we could do now we have a decent backer, great stadium, great training facilites, big fanbase and an excellent academy. All i ask of other fans is just look into things a little bit more and don't go in to a debate with little or no facts about the club you're debating with.

In fairness Saintadam, Southampton do look on the up at the minute, and as a fellow fun of a club that doesnt get a massive amout of glory, I do insist that you enjoy it. You may go unbeaten all season and it could be the best year of your life, you might end up near the bottom. We just dont know.

Enjoy it while it last because with every game won you get the sun shining on you until the next one, I wish we had your hopes and dreams.

I hope we do well also but i don't expect us to stay at the top all season,in fact i'd be happy with a comfortable season with no stress! if we do well then that's a big bonus but if we don't then we move onto next season, one things for sure though is that we will be challenging sooner or later in this league because that's what the chairman expects and is willing to invest into.I've got nothing against bristol city and to be honest fontaine is a player that i would take or leave,i'd be happy either way.Oh and by the way le god was a fat,big nosed lazy player but he was also a genius

I reckon you need to wait until at least christmas to see how you are going to do. Could be new club syndrome this year.
Fontaine would be good for you , experienced championship player, gets the ball on the ground, but I dont think has ever really set the world alight for some reason. Just offer to find consistency. Maybe a new challenge would do him some good.

Nice lot, the Bristol City fans aren't they

Bristol City fans like many other clubs have become used to mediocrity.
Any fans that are supportive and want to push there own team forward will always get stick.
Fontaine's contract is running down and you have yet to tie him to a new deal so live with it.

Ps

He aint even that good so we wont be blubbing if it don't happen, unlike you boys who blubb at the very thought of it !!

I have been to Scunthorpe and Southampton but I have never been to Southamption !

We are one of the richest clubs in England, have a chairman that wants to get in the top 6 this season and back in the
Premier League by 2014. I don't think anyone can call our club not ambitious.

In terms of Fontaine, we are entitled to enquire or bid for him. If Bristol City don't want to put a price on him, we will move on to another target...

I am not a big fan of fonts to me he has looked uninterested for a while now, On his day he is decent though.
The problem the saints have though is we are short at the back maybe if millen has someone lined up this move could happen.
Or just offer him a winger!

wow this is hilarious

oh look at us we have a rich chariman yawn 5 year plan yawn offer whatever we want yawn buy who we want yawn small club yawn

personally you can have him, league 1 player will suit them

Someone seriously needs to calm down. This article was created as a simple question about Fontaine and whether you think it could materialise. There is no need to go slating our club for just being interested in your players. If he is such a bad "league one" player, why are you getting so worked up over us bidding for him?

I'm only saying I don't rate him and you can have him and its annoying when fans our like oh we have all this money he'll come here what have you got to offer <doh>

Just because you have a plan like Leicester and LOADS of MONEY don't make us **** ffs

TBF, I don't think any of our fans were saying we WILL sign anyone. As far as I'm concerned, we have gone about our business reasonably maturely. If a club does not want to sell a player, we won't buy the player. All the players we have signed, the clubs we have bought off have been happy to sell. Anyway, good luck to Bristol City this season - looks like your back on the up after a poor start.

We have 60 stone WOW! Gorillas and he wont go until he finds them all!!!

Seriously though, I dont think Southamption are any further ahead of Bristol City in the grand scheme, but what it sounds like they do have is a little cash going spare. The currency of football these days is actual currency, if they can agree a price with City then the deal will be done. The player will get a wage rise and a contract extension and his moving will have nothing to do with the potential of the clubs.

This potential move came out of the blue today but if someone had said the club making the bid was Sheffiled Wednesday I would still assume he would go, not for the glory, but for the chance to reestablish himself in a first team with an improved contract.

He will just stay if you offer him less wonga.
No of course weren't not,we just have a chairman that knows loads of billionaires, has big ambitions and knows how to run a business smoothly...do some research... Bristol City are a better proposition<doh>

"If a club does not want to sell a player, we won't buy the player"

Duh, thats cos he wasn't for sale! <doh>

Anyone can bid/enquire for anyone. The club has a choice to accept it, negotiate it or tell the other club the player is not for sale. If the circumstance is the last one then we will not sign him. What I'm trying to say is that some clubs (eg Leicester or Man City) will keep on bidding and bidding to try and disrupt a player and force the club into selling the player. We are not one of the clubs like Leicester and Man City.
