Not sure if people have been following this but looking for some sensible debate on it. Seems mad how a grown man can complete in the NCAA Championship with Olympic woman Atheles and win. As a father of a daughter and a physiological lecturer as history, leaves a sour taste.
I am no expert on physiology. I have to say though it does seem odd that in a sport so clearly reliant on physical attributes like strength and stamina it feels difficult to see this as an entirely level playing field. I believe the governing body required a variety of checks and balances to try to negate the benefits attributed to male physiology, but I dont know what they are. At a very superficial level of thought, which is all I can offer with my lack of expertise, it doesnt seem fair. I would say there are other sports where women have no physical barriers to overcome and they appear, if encouraged to, can compete equally. The darts in recent years shows what is possible, and how fantastic a spectacle it can be. Swimming feels a very different context though.
You are spot on I wanted to raise this here as it's good to have the space to talk about it. Lots of taboo.
I'm all for supporting the transgender community and their rights to compete. It's the combat sports that I worry about. There's women having their faces punched in and getting beat up quite badly from women who have transitioned from being male. I hope it isn't going to take for somebody to get seriously hurt, or worse, until the governing bodies step in and review it. I don't see why we can't have an extra category for sports, now. Male, Women, Trans.
Totally wrong, there has never been a sport that a woman can beat a man at especially at a professional level, any sport, even Fatima whitbread arguably the butchest woman in history could not throw a shot put further than a man
Sorry don’t get it, when the midwife looks between a child’s legs he or she says it’s a girl or boy, if the odd folk want a transgender games let them crack on but a person with an Adam’s apple born as a having a cock and balls could potentially drop kick a girl on the head it gone too far
Obviously I'm talking about the women jockeys. Rachel Blackmore is the best jockey out there, at the moment.
The horse won with a female jockey for the first time ever, there is no weight, height or build difference, probably more petite, I would agree they are both athletes though male and female but certainly more a level playing field, what about changing the French rugby team with women?
How’s that? So what are you having then? Dunno they baby hasn’t been given a choice yet? Is that your remit?
Being a jockey is a skill. Blackmore is the most skilled jockey, at the moment. Very few male jockeys could achieve what she has on certain horses.
It's a difficult subject to discuss publicly as there are certain types of people that will jump on anything deemed remotely a exist / genderist (is that even a word). My basic thoughts (possibly ignorance) is someone born a man and going through puberty etc as man that then becomes a woman, is bound to have muscle mass, bone structure etc of a grown man. Would a woman who trans to a man have the same impact in the same sport? The answer I suspect is no. Therefore in my daft logic if success can't be repeated both ways then maybe the governing bodies need to look at alternatives
I didn’t deny it, what I said was it is in no way a direct physical sporting competition between a male and female as the title Of this thread
People who identify as mountain goats etc to me are odd folk, I have a 14 year old daughter who has told us she’s gay, I’m cool with that, if she told me she reckoned she could knack the new Mike Tyson I would say hold on pet
