How would an all time greats LFC team match up against an all time Utd team?
Who would star ? Playing at their best level in their peak who would go into LFC and who would go into Utd and what would the score have been, just for fun - hypothetically. I would do anything to see Gerrard and Hughes play in the same squad :)
Leave the Managers out as think that will just derail it :)
Just interested to see slme of the names that may come up :)

    Waterdude is sexy <ok>

It's far too late/early to come up with a proper answer, so suffice to say that there would be no Man U players. <badger>

    My era.

    Reina
    Finnan Carragher Hyypia Riise
    Masch
    Gerrard Alonso
    Suarez
    Torres Fowler

The front 3 was tough because I wanted all those 3 in, but Torres & Fowler have to play centrally so Suarez can just have a free role.

    Schmeical
    Neville Stam Vidic Irwin
    Ronaldo Keane Scholes Giggs
    RVP RVN

Isn't there a glaring omission from your Liverpool team (apart from Djimi)?

Well putting Bisc in from the start would make it too unfair. He can come on in the last 10 and finish the game off <ok>

Serious note, think those teams are pretty damn good. Shows how bad our LB's have been when Riise is the best of my era though :(
Was good for a bit but always dodgy defensively.

  8. Slight tweak to your Man Utd line-up...

    Schmeical
    Neville Stam Vidic Irwin
    Beckham Keane Scholes Giggs

Never been a fan of Beckham. Decent, but don't think he's one of the greats.

    What about LFC one?

Also possible. I just like the idea of Gerrard and Alonso pinging balls to Torres and Owen. Obviously you could put Fowler in Owen's position instead (or Heskey).

  11. That midfield quartet was awesome and probably the best we've seen in the PL.

Using the same time period for Liverpool as you...

    Reina
    Finnan Carragher Hyypia Riise
    Masch Alonso
    Gerrard
    Suarez - - - Macca
    Torres

Very harsh on Fowler but Torres needs to be the lone man

Agree with IBWT on this, why does he need dvd's of the oldies? We know the names, we know what they did, but they were NOT the ones we probably saw and fell in love with or admired when it came to the club.

96 for me and being from the states, only knew about Dalglish, Keegan and the likes and with Keegan I knew him more with managament than what he did with us. Macca, Fowler, Berger, Murphy, Didi, Gaz Mac, Rob Jones, Owen, Heskey, Redknapp, old barnes, old Ince, etc those are the guys I watched and that got me hooked, the spice boys, the 3-5-2, fluid footy.

well if you can't pick an all time LFC team if you won't go back past 1990 can oyu. for that matter you will struggle for utds too.

bascially as long as you see the spice boys as an absolute shambles compared to a real LFC side fine.

the question was clearly all time, not young power era.... i cant even have a discussion being 10+ years older as i have to drop at least half that team.

either everyone speaks on the same level or you can converse on it.

think about this... we could spend a year fighting over which era formation!

Really hard to do , so many greats . I'd go for

    Clemence

    Neal. Hanson. Hyppia A.Kennedy

    Gerrard. Souness. Hughes

    Dalglish

    Rush. Suarez.

    For the scum

    Schmeichal

    G.Neville. Ferdinand. Pal lister. Irwin

    Keane. Robson. Scholes

    Ronaldo. RVN. Cantona

But so many other Liverpool greats to leave out.

I know it sounds sad but this kind of thing gets done all the time on another forum i visit on a totally different topic - i personally find it interesting to hear which players others deem as the greatest.
I realise asking for both teams outright is a big ask, so how about we break it down and go for best gk - possibly a vote then go defence etc.
To me it is no more pointless than discussing current team and formations - its not like BR comes on here for tips :)
All i am suggesting is a fantasy 11. Someone on sky sports said that in his opinion Gerrard was the greatest, pretty bold claim to me, but got me thinking.
Already the few teams suggested look great to me ( even the Utd ones )
All i have is my opinion - was surprised to see Callaghan not suggested by anyone, maybe if i can get dave involved :) just wanted to see what other fans thought.

    hmmmmm...

snot bad snot bad at all <laugh>

I find LB is the hardest position of all to pick for LFC. I would not say necessarily LFC have had a real stand out oh my god he's the very best yet...

    I do think:

    1. I think if its a comparison between 2 teams the only fair way is to pick a 442 and that means 2 cbs, 2cms, 2 full backs, 2 strikers and not over accounting for many forwards, 2 wide men.

    2. LFC team

GK Clemence is a shoe in as grobs thrw matches end of. In any event he'd be my pick
RB: has to be neal, for me nicol would be a second
CB: yes hanson, yes hyppi. but its really close with others like thomposn and yeats even carra somewhere in top 10 you might suggest
LB: really hard. Alan kennedy yes but....
CM: If i say CM I should pick 2. Souness and gerrard jump out. molby has an amanzing time in the 80s, there are about 10 other names you could put in but the midfield duo pick themselves
LW/LM. Has to be John barnes. heighway, and all others have to take a back seat here cos he was just that good
RW/RM.... hmmm you see i'd almost throw gerrard out here as pre ego he was awesome in this zone but really its ian callaghan
St: This is rather easy on a number of levels its dalglish and rush... the pfhackt that guys who didn't win much like suarez and torres are mentioned cannot diminish form the actual acheievements of this pairing. I would put suarez in but he didn't achieve he got 2nd

    3. Man utd team

see this is a question; theres the busby era... then theres ferguson and the middle is gash. so is it a case of pikc out of jus tthose two... i dunno

GK Its schmicheal all day long
RB: Garry neville has to be close here.
    CB: Stam, Vidic? Bruce pallister?
    LB: Irwin
CM: Robson and scholes? Keane has to be close.
    LW/LM Giggs?
RW/RM: Best? Ronaldo? Prob actually fiarer tp push ronaldo forward as he was gash at rw and when playing free socred a shed load
ST: I'll just through charlton and ronaldo here for the laugh....
