Comparing to Diaz is fair enough but the other two were in better (marginally in Salah's case) leagues
The numbers have been adjusted to factor in quality of the league I think.
As you may not know I have made connections with several lfc staff on some professional sites.
Achterburg and Morgan for example.
Anyway they have been posting on how the staff are actually working with players right now on individualised training sessions using some 3rd party performance companies.
Theses guys never stop training and working.
Henderson and lallana are actually off on holiday in portugal and are training away doing the full on data analytics
I think we seriously under estimate the dedication we have at the club on and off the park.
This is what separates a 30 year old like salah, or henderson or milner from a slob like Shaw or git like pogba just as an example.
Next time we knock guys for being crocks or too old really these guys have left no stone unturned to give everything to win things for us to enjoy.

but yeah its a level of dedication that really belies the belief that its all about players natural physical ability. The level of science applied to understand exactly where these players are at in thier career and levels of stamina and speed is amazing but the players are extending that out through their work ethic.

This is the first post hitting incident v everton.
Note the players. gomez is hoofing it at nunez who is running behind. This is vertical play. 6 everton players are taken out of the game. they lined up as 451.
Salah has dropped deep so coady followed him and mylkenko was looking at ball to elliott.. Note diaz poisiton.
In effect this is now a 1 v 1 with nunez are tarkowski. coady act makes it back to try block so fair play to the lad he worked real hard.

vvd is quite slow on it tbh. Fabinho runs laternal across behind maupay to recieve but its a poor position. we can see carvalho there in both pics but there's cover there.

All fab can do is pop it off to tsimikas who as now only two options. Vertical to diaz who is now on half way facing back to our own goal (never gets half turned) or back to vvd. of course the scouse greek never even considers that ball forward.

VVD trots very slowly forward looking up. Carvalho is in the everton line, not making a move. fabinho is already out of the option. elliott has done nothing much here, again he is in that line.

now we rinse and repeat. the ball totrent, then to ellioot then back to gomez. here we are with the ball with gomez again playing back again to vvd.

this is exactly what i mean by lateral play. the ball has come back form the right side so there's 2 or 3 everton lads there. gomez is playing to vvd.
Look at our forwards. Nunez is still looking to make the same in behind run. He's off tarkowski but offside. salah is doing nothing. Hes's stood in the line with the everton back 4 but walking away from goal. Tarkowski is able to hand him off to his full back.
Look at diaz the other size. He's now wide, too wide and going wider and facing away from goal. if is finally reaches him he is always going away from goal. hes dropped deep for tsmikar, ran forward facing right way and runs round and is moving away again. At least he has moved himself.
Now Cms. Elliott. stood in the line wasn't really available and got easily closed down. same for Carvalho. never once moved out of the line everton have put up.
However now: look at our cb vvd and carvalho.... everton man decides to sprint at vvd. carvalho should be free.

vvd never even considers the forward ball. He's knocked it straight back at gomez cos the guy runs at him. look at the space carvalho is in now. onana is sort of reacting but look also at diaz now. Had carvalho got that pass MAYBE diaz has a run at paterson.

Alisson bowls it out hard at robertson to invite him to go. Its fast ball. 5 everton players are out if it already.

now everton are SLIGHTLY exposed. their midfield couldn't get back so its 4 v 4 in there on thier back line and all the forwards that are thrown in there.
this bascially ends with diaz playing to salah who hits post after pickford claims a fingertip.
the contrast is the thing.
this is what i mean by playing more direct and going vertical. forward passes between the lines. Midfield and forwards need to be moving to create those passes.
VVD and gomez need to speed up what they are doing massively.

The distance one is tricky though because we’ve had 70% possession so you’re not going to run as far as opposition because in theory you should be moving the ball around which forces the opponents to move more.
Now not saying we just stand still as that’s kind of what’s been the issue but really if you move the ball quickly then you don’t need to make as many runs and run around as much as the opponent.

fulham were excellent. Tight pitch (smaller than anfield actually) so they really go for it.
Palace - shockingly poor from us and we ended with 10 men.,
Man utd - wake up call. they out worked us with eriksen ffs. no excuse.
theres this thought that we "rest on the ball" klopp says this lot so when you are handed the lions share of possession you dont need to run.

It seems to me that these two things add up somehow. first being out sprinted and out distanced by miles and second teams giving us the ball.
they all want us to have it cos they can sloe space and shuffle us about until we over commit and then they go hard.
With the ball we are extremely static, i'm not seeing midfielders drop in and take the ball off cbs, i'm not seeing forwards drop into gaps create nor run beyond. instad i'm seeing forwards deeper than CMS (bobby and diaz)
I think this all adds up in some manner that shows some ponderous players (VVD) some players not moving (carvalho, henderson, milner, elliott ass stood i nthe first line with teams) andin general quite slow play.
we have seen a few reactions to klopp going in at HT. I think palace as one example where it quickened up a bit.
Man utd blew us off the park with their running. 29% possession was all they had and they suckered arsenal in a slightly similar way but arsenal were better than us.
theres something badly wrong there as the examples above in pictures show. Very very slow lax play getting the ball moving and very little running and demanding quick play.
I actually think we are wasting diaz totally and he is the one moving loads and getting nothing but scraps going the wrong way to play off.
Are we dependant on thaigo taking the ball off these cbs to make play or what?

Hm Dno I think if you look at the stats since klopp joined I think you’d notice a pattern of possession % going up while sprints and distance goes down.
we’ve slowly moved away from high volume sprinting counter press to more controlled possession type.
It’s why our midfield of workmanlike midfielders were brilliant (Hendo, Milner, fab, Gini) when they just has to push up and close down the opposition but as soon as we started to control games they become far less influential and why players like thiago have come in.
