It only stands to reason that playing t20 in a test environment where seam and spin are delivered more cinsistently will lead to fast runs and fast loss of wickets

Bit harsh. Boult and Southie are both very good bowlers. Wagner is decent back up as well.

Got knows why Nz don’t play an actual spinner, someone that took 10 wickets in an innings only last year in India or Pakistan… has to be better then part time bracewell?

They aren’t at their best, but still a decent side and considering where we were as a team, at least the players look like enjoying it again which helps. Can’t knock them for potentially winning a series 3-0 and being first team to chase 250 3 times in a series.

They are very good and they are the front line. Look at the struggle their second line is having though. That is really why alongside the positivity that we are getting a lot of runs off the older ball.

Nz have ****ed up falling for the "no need for spin in england" line

Having a spinner who can just tie down one end, even if not threatening for wickets allows teams to rotate their seamers so was a strange one for sure.

Esp given jonny bairstow has won both tests for us and the lad with the best will in the world struggles with spin and lbw.

They have had us twice and bairstow has taken it away from them

morgan set to retire from internationals.

has to go down as englands greatest white ball cricketer? Explosive with the bat, brilliant leader and totally transformed English white ball cricket over 6-7 year period.

    HMMMM... I dunno.

Revolutionary captain. Yes the batting is there in patches as well but greatest white ball cricketer? How do we separate the form as a player form the leadership in this one? It'd be like debating henderson as greatest LFC captain or player no?

He will be missed and goes with the trophies and records to prove his approach was dead right.

Well it stands up to buttler there doesn't it.

Root's odi record is pretty good though but morgan does seem to top all the charts there (not up to date fully i think)

Harsh to say in patches. The guy was absolute quality with the bat for long period of time. Would put him up there with best in the world. Would prob say as a batter, butler has gone above him now, but across ODI and T20 I think Morgan really was brilliant, at a time before players were regularly scoring at the stupidly high rates we see now.

Would be interesting to see strike rate long side that average though. Tbf to butler, a lot of wary t20 he was coming in number 6 as a finisher and getting 15 balls so his average won’t be that great.

Joe Root is a severely underrated White ball cricketer imo. His problem is that he goes at about 100, and today this England team you need to be going at 120+

It used to be you have 1 player go score 100 from 100 and you get towards 300. Root was that perfect player but then butler Bairstow livingstone came in and start score 100 from 60 balls and roots role isn’t really needed.

Well it is imo a issue that if all you need is swing away hackers then there's a problem with the sport.

Something has to change to allow bowlers make it a little bit more difficult that stand and slog through the line with almost eyes closed.

You are right about buttler coming in later but it's not that.much later than Morgan is it?

Root's own fault for roatating the strike like an old school cricketer. every 1 he gets Bairstow is slogging 5 or 7 in return.

    Bairstow.

"you know how you were there most of the evening yesterday mate? 3 hours total or so. 86?"

    hold my beer

71 in 53mins of 44 balls. just swinging away and still no thought in NZ to play a slower ball or change it up to trouble the guy.

crawley. also less than an hour but 25 runs in 56 mins.

NZ bowlers really should be ashamed cos they'll let him kill them without really coming out of convention.

Fair play to JB. Put Nz bowlers on back foot with his approach and earned the right have a bit of a slog at times.

1 week to the puke test though.

its all fifa and blatter's fault for selling football to the sports washers. we could have been watching England lose in the world cup now.
