Thing is with who? burns got 100 for Surrey yesterday but has had numerous goes for England and looks iffy.

No one has really put forward a case to actually replace

total is too high to chase successfully imo. It'll be a record.

I predicted crawley wouldn't be a factor and am not that interested. If we want to win he is not going to get the runs quick neough so right now Lees is the most important player. If he can get 50 quick before root has to come in then we have a half chance.

Its a massive ask to demand 263 runs from 63 overs in test cricket.

4.17 runs per over. Thats ODI stuff and neither the pitch nor the rules allow for ODI batting.

    Burns technically is absolutely ****e.

Crawley technically is better but has a huge issue with driving and swinging the bat hard at the ball rather than waiting for the ball to come onto him and punch it away. He's gone again swinging at a wide ball that's set up for him and should be recognising its there to get him. This time crawley is half into the shot and tried to pull out and that's almost the worst thing ever as it presents the edge without the pace to maybe help it away for luck.

If england can find a positive lees then maybe it needs to accept on might get 50 but out playing while the other can be a lock down low slow scorer. Technically however the skill is to get in and not swinging away and get yourself out before you've even seen the flight of the ball etc.

opening is tough. you need the mindset to read the conditions and pick your moments. push the ball away and wait for the conditions to then start driving.

    pope gone.

playing like stokes had a word to go play like its t20.

has been chasing about wildly and lees is having to control him. popes come forward into a good ball there. ITS NOT T20!!!

    lees 30 not out
    root in.

246 to win from 8 wickets now. Key men imo are in.

bairstow hasn't scored. stokes has played to hard and fast thus far.

this will either go terrible wrong or see some sanity being introduced by root and lees.

    forget about it now.

not worth watching bar to see guys trying to scrap.

chipped it back at boult off leading edge.

    blown it as expected.

3 cheap wickets for hardly any runs.

    said this friday.

Ok its first innings comment but I've been consistent in expecting england to blow it in batting.

They've come out chasing to win a game thats not there to win IMO. there was always too many runs.

    Looking back at crawley dismissal.

the guy is bowling round the wicket at a right hander so he is taking LBW out of play to seek that edge.

Crawleys hands look like a rock, hes not really ever look like his at the pitch of the ball and his bats just falling down into a slot premediated almost.

to get the ball to pitch in line there and then hit stumps is very very hard so crawley needs to be thinking.

299 to win from minimum of 72 overs england now 76/3 from 23

so 223 needed from 49 overs = 4.55 runs and over. not realisitic.

7 wickets in 49 overs. realistic.

england need to see out time here not chase an almost impossible total.

hmmm.. quick check in. 160runs from 38 or 6 wickets from 38. lees didn't make his half century either so its now the big hitters and then the tail end.

38 overs is in theory possible for a careful set of guys to bat out here.
4.2 runs an over is very hard

broad and anderson have plenty of experience trying to dig. leach not as good imo at it. Potts, hard on the lad.

The issue is you've 3 t20/ODI cricketers in Bairstow/stokes and foakes now and then its down to the two old hands. really need a 20 over spell of no wickets here.

bairstow brave 100. could have been a catastrophe and more pressure but fair play . I didn't think he would have lasted long.

you've seemed to have missed the constant "we are going to go for it" comments and God haven't they just as Bairstow just slaps another thru the covers for 4 :emoticon-0165-muscl
