Burns utter failure and also fielded badly
Hameed - scored a few. Seems to have the mentality to leave but is over defensive and not a heavy scorer
    Root. Is root.
Malan. Has to play at it constantly. Not a test batsman imo
Pope. As above. Hes been picked over bairstow and failed (not that bairstow has done anything either)
Stokes. Simply shouldn't be there. It's on name not readiness and it shows all over. Best middle order player by a mile but not this series.
Buttler. Not a test batsman either. The big hitter but not good at keeping a wicket.

That's a hellish amount of issues to deal with sibley and Crawley are also ball ticklers :)

Imo its white ball/t20/100 type players being made and simply no focus on this.

There should have been a 3 match test before this. Even 2 match warm up.

Also anderson rest looking ****ing stupid now. That day 1 pitch was all anderson imo. We didnt bowl and threw the game. Even if we repeated the error he would have bowled for 1 day max lol.

Best of luck next game jimmy. You'll need it bowling with 150 per innings batting order.

What's the betting on this day night **** show then?

    Innings defeat?
England top order to score 20?
Compete shock as even burns gets a few runs?

true but where are they going to "improve"

    Spin bowling?
Seam bowling under lights? woods, woaks and robinson already bowled well. Does anderson for 4 overs twelve an innings make much differencE?
    Batting? are the capable?
    Stokes?
    fielding (burns dropping stuff)
not playing at the ball unnecessarally?

then the aussies, can they do worse? not great bowling second innnings but with new ball they skittled england openers and then root and malan held on and held on and then the lot went cheap. did everythign do right for aussie batting?

In the end this all hinges imo on root. If he gets 100 then the guy next to him has an excuse to hang on and fight. when he goes they look bereft and just throw away wickets. If we can get 300 odd OR bowl them out cheap in first innnings should we bowl first then some heart comes in for the fight.

I just have that feeling it has to go perfect on the first day or heads will drop. Ideally we bowl first and get them out for <200 and get tails up.

Has to be the batting surely. Aside from the Partnership between Root and Malan in the second innings.

Agree on Root as well, at least until Stokes finds some Form.

Indeed. Then again, is there really a raft of better options that he's keeping out?

As a lower order bat swinger?

    Lawrence?

As a bowler the world is better cos he is just not fit.

We could ask woakes or rashid to be a bit of batter and provide the bowling cover.

    12 man squad announced

Joe Root (capt), James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wkt), Haseeb Hameed, Jack Leach, Dawid Malan, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.

    or in other words

    Burns
    Hamed
    Malan
    Root
    Stokes (no 5???)
    Pope
    Buttler (w)
    Woakes/leach
    robinson
    Broad/leach
    Anderson

we surely cannot think we are going to go in without any spin bar part time root?

We are seriously going to drop woakes who can slightly swing a bat?

serious serious pressure on the top order.

So england drop leach and bowl root.

If I were him I'd be on the first plane home but then he has no means to earn otherwise so I expect he will stay and shut up and be useless to everyone.

You have to ask what kind of ball bags do that to a player.

Aussies affected by covid. How does their captain manage that from a bubble.eh?

first and last session i watch a bit of.

that was pure one trick to see if a guy will make a bad mistake

no catching slips, just short ball at one and and deep catchers.

Leach was relegated to water carrier so root got targeted instead and we didn't even save Anderson up for the night time part. we will have him bowled out by the time the conditions change

We're bowling too short. Need to pitch it at more of a good length and attack the stumps a bit more, make the Aussies have to play a few.

Yes, we've bowled a lot of maidens and the run rate is very low, but they've got time.

You can bet that the Australian pacemen will bowl fuller.

some bowled just line and length and scoring was low. stokes was tasked to bash it into the guys head all the time and hope for exactly what buttler dropped. a dolly.

the aussie commentator said about england, the need to be out in the session bouncing not hands on hips moping.

That session was a disaster for england and the guy called it. buttler drops a much easier take right out of the glove and england just then do nothing at all.

Labuschagne dropped by Butler. As straightforward a catch as you'll see in test cricket. ****'s played and missed 20 times as well. Can't afford mistakes like that at this stage in the game. Piss poor <grr>

buttler has again dropped Labuschagne. thats twice and he's now going to get a century where he should have been gone for 30 odd.
