England win the series 4-1 - thoroughly deserved although it was closer than what the scoreline reflects.

Great quality cricket all round (bar one test where England won easily).

    so root.

    1. bowled himself over Rashid earlier in day. looked idiotic then cos it took Rashid time to get loosened up and he then too two vital wickets.

    2. allowed India back into it. they had a half chance there.

    3. stayed with old ball just cos a spinner got one. if he'd taken new ball right after Rashid took second it say it would have gone quicker.

    4. field at times was preplan with zero game awareness. it was full on need catch stuff there and lads were out of game on ropes.

Root beat the number one ranked test side 4-1.

Rashid can never keep a decent length when under pressure, stick to one day cricket pal.

In Curran he has put his trust in a young guy who looks gr at in home conditions, can he deliver on tour?

He has lost England’s greatest ever batsman.

Lose this winter and he will be under pressure, but for now he has done what’s required.

Root didn't beat the no 1 test side on the wolrd on his own.

    a) weather did play a part
    b) several indian players were severely out of form.
    c) emergence again of a couple of young hungry players like curran had a huge part to play

What I am talking about here is the fact that with respect to joe root he is a journeyman spin bowler who messes about with it as an opener who is there only to give lads a rest AT BEST.

A regulation spin bowler was picked for the side... the all the selectors. not as all rounder but as spinner. A second spin bolwer was picked at no 3 batsman to placate roots having a sulk about batting at no 4. So root bowls himself rather than the regulation spin bowler and in effect wastes a couple hours of the game rather than giving the ball to the guy who's job it is.

When he finally give sup and gives the guy the ball he then produces.

This is not about rashid's ability or what he would do wherever, its baout the selectors picking the guy and root not then using him... for no good reason. to make it worst then he persists with an old ball with anderson persumably cos rashid did bowl the vital guys out.... does root get that you can hand a fresh ball to a spinner its not hard and fast rule.

root again wasted a few overs bolwing a dead ball at guys only blocking when he needed the new ball at them.

again my points not about results its about decision making. you can be a great captain in a **** side losing 0-5 and a **** captain in a side winning 4-1

england now have no no 1, no 2 and no 3 batsman as it stands... hmmm... from the off.

    hungry.

The top order batsmen by contrast look like deer in headlights rather than hungry to score.

Obviously I missed this as I was in Mexico. They're not big on cricket over there <laugh>

Fantastic end to a wonderful test career for Alastair Cook.

Immense achievement for Jimmy Anderson going past the hideous lantern-jawed convict ****. Greatest seam bowler of all time <ok>

Was a nice touch by the Indian players all wanting to shake cook hand when he got dismissed.

For an opening batsmen don't think it will be bettered as most on list are number 3 or 4 aren't they.
