Bell's done his typical get to 50 and get out...

...but only 3 runs behind with 7 wickets in hand, it's looking good for getting a decent first innings lead.

    Close of play.

Australia 136 all out in 36.4 overs
    England 133-3 after 29.0 overs

Typical bell. Get to 50 then get yourself out. Such a ridiculous shot as well

still overall after losing the toss to be where we are is very good day.

Bat as long as possible and try get a lead of 350 and see this game out.

I'd take it at start of innings honestly.

Bell and lyth I had no hopes for. I hoped cook would stick but hey. .. this is a real tough day and probably our best two start tomorrow so we will see.

150 lead? I'd take it now.

Lyth I expected nothing from but Bell back at number 3 looks much more comfortable (despite the awful dismissal). That's nearly 300 runs from his last two England innings at number 3 :) Cook was unlucky really and had he still been in I'd have fancied us to get to 300 but anything over 250 and we'll be in a decent position. Let's just hope they can knuckle down and make the most of what should be better batting conditions today <ok> Two or three good partnerships and we should be running away with this one so fingers crossed.

Today's first hour is vital that the two in now stick. If we lose them before they get in then we can go down the order

If we can get this ball down to quite old and see some spin on then we can get that lead but we will see.

I'd take bowling at this lot again and having a 3 day test.

Id be very disappointed to only score 100 runs with 7 wickets left when it includes stokes, butler and Ali. If those 4 only get 30 each that's another 90 and you still have Bairstow, Root in at the moment.

We we should be look at over 300 especially as should be a good batting day today

Sure but aussies would have said the same no?

England should have swagger of knowing they are lead building with Anderson to cone back in.

But they have to get in this morning first... as in root needs to stay in and be backed in a series of partnerships

I totally agree but come on mate.....this is England we're talking about <laugh> Brilliant one day.....perplexingly bad the next.....as I say two or three good partnerships and we'll get to 300+ but if we lose two or three early then you'll be more than happy with 250+

<laugh> The aussies were never going to role over mate, they always come out and fight and to be fair they were two ripping deliveries. Bairstow surprised by the short pitched ball though.....I think he was the only one who didn't see that coming <doh>
