Him disobeying team orders in order to hamper his team mate ...
I don't really watch F1 but from what I've read today , Hamilton disobeyed team orders and a lot of people are angry .
Is he within his rights to disobey team orders when he is challenging for title ?
Should the team have encouraged him ?
It was his only option to try win the title, so yes he was within it rights to try it and I think most would expect him to try it.
In the end though, it was totally irrelevant since they both came home one two.

Yeah, can't blame him for what he did. Disappointed Rosberg decided to whine on the radio and try to get his team to save him rather than take the fight to Hamilton on track, but therein lies some of the reason he's succeeded this season, he's played percentages very well when he's needed to.
Rosberg didn't get himself involved in anything he didn't really need to on the run in there. Did exactly what he needed to do to secure the title. Can't take anything away from him really.
You've listed pretty much every attribute of every multiple WDC winning driver that has ever raced in F1.
Except Damon Hill.

okay, maybe Mika Hakkinen could be the exception.

Given the situation he did exactly what I would hope from a determined individual, never give up!
I draw the line at a certain point, like ramming someone off the track etc but otherwise as the lead driver he has every right to set the pace when the only thing in the balance is his own result. With the constructors title tied up Mercedes had no right to dictate who wins the drivers title, it's called drivers title for a reason.
Sure keep them in line overall for a season, but at some stage you have to let them just fight. I feel sorry for a lot of people at Mercedes, it seems a small few at the top just want to make the whole team look bad.
So yeah, what Hamilton did wasn't the most team spirited, but I'd like to thing those without an agenda can understand, I'm sure Nico gets it, he probably even feels a bit better that he gets a WDC at the end of what turned out to be a bit of drama. But hey, no F1 for a few months now so the press have got to make up stories even more often for a while.

It's weird ya know... You'd think they'd have wanted something along the lines of Rosberg colliding with Hamilton and a ton of controversy. It would be played for years... Free advertising over and over and over. 
Hamilton is all of those things, but not for his actions today. He had to try something and he didn't drive in an unfair or dirty way.
Mercedes really worsened my opinion of them today. Sure you don't really want to to have one driver deliberately worsening the result of the other, but they'd already won the constructors and nearly every race this year. The finale should have been (and eventually was) about the drivers, not the team.

That's sort of the point I was making in the race thread about picking and choosing when team directives are to be used. Merc have controlled every racing mile to the benefit of both drivers. I don't blame Lewis although personally I think it was boarderline and is no different to Alonso blocking Lewis in the pits, but I blame Merc for creating their own monsters and then acting shocked when they bite.
There are fundemental issues behind the scenes evident in Lewis's quit threat after Spain. That is a major issue, a lead driver willing to walk out or calling the teams bluff? For Merc to unwillingly up Nico's contract in response speaks volumes for me. When a driver thinks or does become bigger than the team it's time for both to move on.
