No, Redknapp had nothing to do with squad selection, team selection, identifying transfer targets, match day tactics, training routines. It was all the players. They got together for a regular little chit chat and managed to decided everything amongst themselves! If that's your belief, why have a manager? Let's just settle for sacking Sherwood and move on without anyone to replace him <doh>

Levy was happy to speak to Sky on the day we beat Man City to get fourth. I remember it well. Can't find any footage on YouTube but trust me, it did happen.

I'm not saying you lied about Levy, just I've never seen him give an interview.

Nice defence of Redknapp. You won me over Fla. I'll start being more Pro Redknapp.

Nah, I think we're all pretty much of the same mind on this board. Sure, there are a couple of us who are more willing to be generous towards Levy, but I think all of us would agree that he's responsible for, at the very least, part of what's happened to our club.

I agree - he is responsible for taking us from mid-table to Champions League!

I guess I also have to put my hand up and defend Levy. I won't repeat what I posted on another thread but I do believe he does a good job.

Under Redknapp Spurs had Bale, vdV & Modric with a still walking Parker, King, Defoe, Lennon, Kaboul, Friedel.....

I'd have fancied managing that lot to a title challenge.

Now most have been shipped out or marginalised and 'Arry's at Wembley. Has Levy really improved Spurs' lot by throwing all his cards in the air again and seeing how they fall? Heaven forbid, but Utd seem to following this blueprint. Levy may be financially prudent, but if he runs the club on the basis of its financial strictures alone, then Spurs will be forever 6th.

We haven't won the title since 1961 and had some fabulous teams along the way. This club doesn't do league titles, especially when we only have teams for a season before they are broken up.

I'm pretty sure Boss was being sarcastic with his comment and making fun of how some people will bend over backwards to avoid giving Redknapp credit for what he did. (Or is my memory of Boss's previous posts playing tricks on me?). I'm just pretty sure that both Boss and myself have been accused of being Harry-lovers cos, er, we enjoyed the fact that Harry's reign brought good football and good results for Spurs.

I saw that the Mail published this chart. To them, the message is that Sherwood was our best manager ever according to his win percentage....

For me though, I read this as a clear indication that each manager that Levy hired has done better than the previous one.
I don't understand why nobody in the press seems to be highlighting this. (Nor do they highlight how Levy has been an improvement on the previous chairman.)

All we need is a manager who doesn't piss off key players. (AVB - Sherwood)
Who doesn't "over talk" to the media. (Redknapp - Sherwood)

It makes complete sense to me. This is why both AVB and Harry had to go (in very simplified terms).
Then Sherwood comes in and manages to do both!! <laugh>

I am gonna stick my neck out and say in Levy I trust. (Until of course, a manager comes in who has a lower win percentage....<laugh>)

All of this talk of Levy not being a "Football man" will be proven as irrelevant nonsense when we get a manager who can simply get the team to play as a team without proving to be an prick in the process. I don't think it's too much for Levy to ask of a manager.

I don't think Levy is commitment phobic. I believe he just knows that committing to the wrong manager would be a disaster, and he hasn't quiet master the art of picking the right one yet. In hindsight, Martinez would have been a great choice.

Let's hope Levy is learning.

The list is in order of percentage success and not in time order.

Who is the right manager? There are alot of different opinions. Look how many managers lose their job every season ; that shows how few chairmen get it right and those that do you have to ask what their remit was? Staying up, mid-table or CL spot or even champions?

The point is that each manager built on what the previous one left him. Redknapp should be grateful to Jol (I've airbrushed Ramos), AVB to Redknapp and Sherwood to AVB. Nobody starts with a blank sheet, so it's about improving it. For me therefore, Redknapp's return is the best given where he picked us up. Not sure if anyone remembers, but I think we had 2 points after 8 games when he joined.

Oh lord, how can anyone with half an ounce of common sense even believe this as a fair reflection of success? If I managed two games for Spurs and won them both, I'd have a 100% win percentage record. Does that make me the best manager in the club's history in the PL? No. It's all relative. Stats like that are completely misleading. Much the same as last season's record points haul, yet we finished 5th not 4th. Why? Because the league overall has gotten weaker and the top teams have gotten stronger, thus picking up more wins against the lower league clubs.

In the real world, stats like this don't mean anything. It's where you finish and what you win that counts. Glory in other words. There's no glory in points, only prizes. So was Sherwood our best manager/coach ever? Not a chance in hell was he. Redknapp was our most successful manager in the PL to date as we ended in the highest position under him twice and played in Europe's top competition. George Graham and Juande Ramos were the most successful in terms of trophies. End of. It's simple, really guys. Stop reading too much into these BS statistics which mean nothing.

AS always, I completely agree with flaspur. <ok>

Redknapp was here four years.

Avb 19 months

Sherwood 5 months

What next, 21 days!

Thats another point that gets missed as the top three (all time list) have managed under 100 games. WIn percentages should only be taken into consideration if they have managed 198 games (upwards)

Agreed that the statistics don't tell you which manager was best, but the gradual move upwards in both league placings and points under Levy is almost certainly statistically significant. To those of you who doubt Levy: which other current chairman in the PL has got his club from mid-table to being PL contenders every year without a massive cash injection? I'd be happy to have someone with such a record in place of Levy.

In fairness, we've gradually gone backward in the last couple of seasons, not the other way around. I'd also have to disagree that our club has not had a sizeable injection of cash. Ok, so we can't compete with the likes of City and Chelsea who both have sugar Daddies at the top to dip into their back pockets but we have spent and spent big at times compared to many other "mid-table" clubs as you put us. Not all of those buys have paid off. In fact, we've had a track record of the cheaper buys being the best in terms of sell on. Bale, Carrick, Berbatov etc all went for handsome profits. The likes of Bentley, Dos Santos and Darren Bent all turned out to be expensive failures. The jury's out on Erik Lamela and Soldado too!

So I wouldn't exactly say we've been astute with the money we have spent all the time.

Getting 51% of decisions right is world class performance and our transfer record is above average I think. And you can't say that we've 'gone backwards' for exactly the same reason that you object to the claim that Sherwood's and AVB's record is better than Redknapp's. Two seasons is too short a period to tell. And we really have not had a sizeable cash injection compared to say Villa and Newcastle who really have gone backwards.
But please name this Chairman who has done better than Levy who you want us to appoint.

Where is the guy who did the "z scores" analysis on the Arry/AVB PL record ?? :)
With Timmy having a population data size around 1/3 of AVBs and 1/7 of Arrys' ,
I don't think there is much chance of proving his PL record was not mainly due to chance.

Given that changing one result would change his win record by nearly 5% it's very clear that you can't draw any real conclusions from such a small sample.
