It's a kind of weird one this cos on one hand we will make a profit as we paid £15m for him. Maybe Levy is willing to take less from a non EPL club so Modric will not strengthen a rival in the fight for a top 4...(if agent AVB don't succeed in trashing us!)
No, I have no hope that he will stay. That said, I'd rather he took £25m from Madrid than £32m from Chelsea or United. I'm one of those who believe that we don't need Modric in order to maintain top 4. People forget that Modric was injured for most of the season that we first gain a top 4 spot, and that it was THudd who was our most influential player in midfield.
Agree losing Modders is not the end of the world. Do you think you can get top 4 this season? I would settle for third and hopefully 75-80 points from my club
I know this was to HIAG but I'll give my opinion as well. No - there is absolutely no way we'll get top 4 this season. I'm dialling back my expectations as each day passes and we don't sign a quality striker who can play the lone role. At this point, I'd probably say Newcastle and Liverpool will both finish in front of us - Everton have a real shout as well if they spend the Rodwell money well (which Moyes nearly always does). I'd realistically say 8th, maybe even 9th if things go bad. We have an above-average midfield who can supply and supply all day long but if there's no-one there to put the ball in then it's all a bit pointless isn't it!
Should have kept Pavlyuchenko? and you do still have Defoe who is a good striker so its not all bad surely, your just screwed when he is injured lol
That's a bit kneejerk. Have faith in your club. YOu can finish above Newc, Pool, Everton for sure; and challenge CFc and Arse for third
Yes, I do. Even if we don't sign a new striker in this window, although I admit that 4th then is looking less likely. I believe that United have not strengthened significantly, and I believe that Arsenal will be significantly weakened by the loss of RvP. CFC, whilst it has strengthened, have a man in charge who is not, in my view, capable of delivering a consistent level of performance over an EPL campaign, and who is one of my favourites for the boot come the New Year. LFC may flourish under Brendan Rodgers, but I think there is more chance that they will flounder. He, too, is completely untried at the kind of level of expectation that the Mousers have. As for the Toon, if they manage to replicate last season's form they will be doing fantastically well, especially as they have not strengthened significantly. So, even without adding to Defoe and Kane, I believe that we can be competitive for a top 4 place.
I think Spurs can compete for top 4 but likewise, I would not be suprised to see a slump and see them struggle to even get into Europe. They have a good but unspectacular squad. Their best defender has retired, their best midfielder is likely to be sold before end of the month, their best striker isn't theirs and is back with City, Parker still injured which just leaves Bale as a stand out player. They badly need 3-4 new additions to realistically compete. And even then they have a manager who is inexperienced/out of his depth and has little or no hope of getting the same out of the more average player like Arry did. Worrying times for the 'Juggernaut'. The engine is reving but the hand brake has broken and can't be released.
Bale, Walker, THudd, Dawson, Sigurdsson, Vertonghen, VDV, Lennon, Sandro, Friedel - these are all good players. Even Defoe, on his day, is one of the best natural goal-scorers out there (it's just such a shame that his days seem to come around so little, in recent seasons). Plus, we have the likes of Rose, Livermore, Caulker and Kane all coming through the ranks. Okay, so (apart from Bale) they may not be the kind of players that the pimp clubs will be rushing out to spend over the odds to acquire (which I quite like, by the way), but neither are they too shabby. When we got 4th first time round, THudd and Dawson were our most influential players, not Modric or VDV. Also, a point that is massively underestimated, is that our squad has now been together for quite a few seasons, with very few chops and changes. The best thing that Redknapp did for them was to instill belief into them, and get them playing like a team - playing for one another. I'd rather a team of good players playing for one another, than a team of stars playing for themselves. That's where it went wrong for CFC last season, with too many players looking after their own skins and not worrying about the effect that it had on the team's overall performance; and that is the enormity of the task that RDM faces. He does not have the luxury of being able to finish for a second season outside the top 4.
And another performance like that in the league means that those may well be your last champions league memories in a while.
P.S Gooner - what's your new name going to be when RVP leaves? Howabout GoonerFukall to illustrate what you've won in the last 7 years or Goonerwhenis thiswengerprojectactuallygoingtoshowresults? Anyone got any other ideas?
In fairness, neither can I, I'm pretty confident you'll finish above us. Yep! Wow, you're a witty fella. The second one is a beauty, I just don't know how you come up with them! You don't even link it up well like "GoonerWinFuckall" which would have been much better. Clearly you're a bit of a moron, so I'll leave you be.
