That is the point many are missing as we're not a chelsea, real madrid, man city etc, we have a wage cap, a certain budget so to sack a manager that as worked within this system and got us our best finish since the premier league started and shown signs of improvement in our latest season, is not just a huge risk, its unnecessary and could cause more issues.
nobody doubts what Redknapp achieved..however running a football club is not just about getting a good team on the pitch. the club has to be maintained...relationships have to be strong in order for a club to prosper..Levy did not think that was achievable with Redknapp because of the much publicised behaviour of Redknapp. It was obviously a strain for Levy, plus even if the team was playing well does not mean Levy had faith in Redknapp's future conduct. Leading up to his sack..the media circus around Redknapp intensified...culminating with a desperate interview and a statement by Redknapp almost publicly trying to force Levy's hand. i think all this culminated in Levy basically saying : 'stuff the 4th place finishes...its my club and you will not make an idiot of me' im sure Redknapp understood such an attitude by Levy since Redknapp himself used the same ploy with some of our squad players...totally freezing them out...seems to me as though Levy had no choice but to freeze HR out too. you tell me if you was a chairman wether you could work on a daily basis with someone like Redknapp?
It was perfectly clear to me, and presumably to Levy also, that what was always uppermost in Harry's mind was Harry. Loyalty is a one way street to Harry boy - he expects it, but has none himself.
The talk is that we are returning to the director of football set-up, but Levy will officially call the title "technical director" so as to avoid criticism for a step backwards. Tim Sherwood is a possibility for this role.
Is Alex Inglethorpe still involved with the club somewhere? He was a decent up and coming manager (Exeter with Stevie P) at one point.
Yes i think so. When he came in a while back i had wondered whether there was a plan to groom him (not in a nasty way) internally so he'd eventually become our manager and there would be a continuity in staff and playing style. However, that never seemed to happen. Maybe because Redknapp brought his own crew. I wondered whether he might get a higher profile job under the new manager
Technical Director might actually be a different job to Director of Football, working on the parts of the club that the manager has less input into, perhaps. The youth system, the scouting system and aspects of the training facilities, maybe?
Alex Inglethorpe is still with the club and has been involved with the Academy squad since he joined us. Not sure what the future holds for him, but before the "change of direction", his position was considered safe.
