found this on wiktionary, so probably rubbish but for what it's worth: "The word probably came from the term 'have way', which was used by early settlers to express an urgency to 'move on'. They used this a lot and also the term 'have a care' to signify taking care. So the term most probably derived from 'have way' and has been shortened over the generations to ha'way."
Everything gets bloody shortened these days. Saying that, 'Have Way' doesn't have the same aggressive tone that Ha way does just before kick off.
If I lived in Sunderland, I'd open a sports nutrition shop called Ha'Whey You can have that one for free, it's not patented.
Maybe the players have read this and think we mean "move on" when we say Ha'Way the lads! They certainly seemed to move on lost weekend!!
