They've played about the same amount as I go with 2 strikers or rotate sometimes but Rodriguez only has 3 goals. Lambert must suit my tactics with one striker as he did well for me in FM2012. Lambert's out for 3-4 weeks now so I'll stick with Rodriguez maybe he'll come into form. Guly has worked his way up to starting line up last few games so hopeful he won't retire. I do have more than enough options at RM to be fair so it wouldn't matter
What's the best tactic on Football Manager 2011 for a Conference South side? I tried playing 4-1-3-1-1 (which is basically 4-5-1) but haven't had much success. Played 4-4-1-1 and haven't had much success. It's annoying as in a lot of matches, my team have been creating shedloads of chances but can't seem to finish.
I play 4-2-3-1 and have Rodriguez as my target man, with Lallana on the left, Gaston in the middle and Mayuka on the right. Rodriguez holds the ball up finds one of the three and uses his pace to get behind the defence. Now is England's first choice striker! Rooney is now a midfielder!
I've tried operating a similar system but can never get performance from Ramirez - what role and/or individual tactics do you use to make him produce?
To be honest, 4-4-2. Sorry. Keep it simple, and only focus on primary skills for each position. Tall centre backs with good tackling, central midfielders with good passing, stamina and work rate (it would help if one of them was tall as well), quick wingers with good crossing, one poacher with good pace and finishing, and your other striker should either be a target man with height and good heading, or a deep-lying forward with good passing and technique. Don't try and play a fluid system or short passing. Balanced/mixed or rigid/direct would work better with ****ty pitches and players with limited ability. If you have an image in your head of getting your team to play lovely football, you're going to have a bad time. The ball is going to be punted back and forth so you need to outmuscle the opposition in the middle and focus on winning a high percentage of headers (look at the in-game statistics during matches do see how you're doing with that). Goals mostly aren't going to come from flowing passing moves and working the ball into the box, so focus on getting crosses in. Experiment with both floated and drilled crosses and see which has the most success.
He's actually having a quiet season at the moment but he did well last season with 12 goals and about 18 assists. I haven't actually set any specific tactics for Gaston, I think his assists total was due to lethal finishing from Rodriguez more than anything!
On my current saint save, I been using the 4-2-3-1 (wingers) for smaller teams, and then 4-1-2-2-1 (wingers) for bigger teams. but still losing late in the games. Is they a way to stop that? What formation you using? Thanks AS
I have been playing a deep 4-3-3 , basically with 1 striker and 2 wide attackers, very easy to quickly change from defensive to attacking strategies, as long as you have a half decent striker.
Just started a new Saints game (still struggling to get into them), had an offer and contract accepted for Curtis Davies, delayed the transfer for a week because I was going after other targets, the second after I delay (look at the order of messages on the left) I get this: please log in to view this image
Well if you look at it from a deterministic point of view, he probably wouldn't have. If you're a believer in a different kind of "fate" then your answer may be different. But maybe we're getting a little too deep for a Football Manager thread.
