I accept that everyone's different - I'm not getting any younger but have always been quite vociferous but some show no passion at all and a young couple near me, never ever, show any passion even when there's a firey incident to get 'upset' about. When there's large pockets of supporters that are bereft of any passion throughout the East Stand its hardly surprising such a large area struggles to get going. Maybe safe standing without an allocated spot is the answer. That said you see it every day on Sky with PL games - people smiling, laughing and joking even when their team is losing - very odd and probably shows the groundswell change in the class of people now attending football matches.
The bloke next to him told him to shut up, I just flicked the V's at him. I'm surprised the stewards didn't have a go at any of us, they were looking straight at the whole thing.
I think the best thing we could do is move some of the E1's and E2's and spread then all over the East stand and then more through out the whole stand would join in and for the one's who don't want to sing if it dosn't bother them then they can just sit there but if they don't like it then move to the West or South stands I really enjoy the whole match experience with a better atmosphere as i am sure most do but i get the feeling if your sat in a quiet area and feel as if others are looking at you then you simply stay quiet yourself. Everyone's got to admit its very rare for the full stand to sing. And another thing not all the singers are hooligans and swear every other word which is the feeling i get from some fans. People who go in the East stand should expect some noise, every club as a singing stand and its about time more of the singers get singing again and if someone gives you a mucky look give them a look back and sing louder
What is the story between this apparent two factions, why are some divided? I do not know too much about your club I am ashamed to admit, I watch a lot of English football, including the Football League divisions but as far as fan culture for Hull goes I am lost.
I wonder if putting microphones under the roofing would be a good idea, then the songs could be magnified. ot I heard that the next HCFC game is gonna be on sky.
you'll be lucky, you might get "Oh come all ye faithfull" mind... when I go to City (about once a season) I take my nephew and it has to be the west stand cos his mum would kill me if we went in the east!
Another thing tell me when your playing someone say like Leeds when everyone seems to get behind the team and it feels as though there is a desperation to win attitude, the noise levels rise and its win at all costs but then you play someone like Charlton and suddenly is it only a few what think its win at all costs to the others is it a case of well i don't have to bother today attitude, lets just hope we win. We have all got to realise that every game and i know i keep saying it but these last few home games they are all games were every fan as well as player as to give everything they have to WIN. THE EAST STAND needs that PASSION back and it really could make the difference between an automatic or play off place
Took an ex bird to e1 a few years back and there was a twelve year old swearing like a trooper, she was horrified, that's why she's an ex, if you can't hack e1 ha
The chants in the east have always been disjointed, it's been discussed before. It's not unusual to be caught between two chants, one from E4(ish) the other from E2(ish). Sometimes it's the same chant but out of sinc, other times it's two totally distinct chants. It's interesting at away games with mates that sit in E7 that they've not heard some songs that have been sung all season in E3 - E1.
In Hull, we used to have a ground that was split between standing and seating. The noisier more boisterous types preferring to stand, because it was cheaper and more fun. Others chose to sit. At away games back then, I don't recall seeing too many of the sitters. Move forward 15 years and we've only got seats. Unfortunately it seems some are too intolerant to move to another area of the stadium where sitting and quietly watching the game is the norm, so they sit in the middle of a boisterous area and dampen the atmosphere. Having **** stewards and incompetent Police doesn't help the picture either. We're also quite tribal, with the brighter, better looking and more afluent types living in the true part of Hull in the North of the City, with poorer types living to the East and West. There's also some that latch on to Hull but can't afford to live there and are forced to exist in satellite housing estates with very limited facilities around the edge of the City.
I'm in E7 and you're probably right but little ''ditties' are not the problem. At Anfield or St James Park for example the noise is merely about 'singing' the name of the Club in unison. Not enough at City do that.
I wouldn't say there's a rivalry, it's just preference, ie sitting or standing. Most who chose to sit still sing, it's just they're so spread out there's no unison. Whereas, in Europe you have the ultras sections where they all gather in one part, In contrast ours are spread over 3 different parts of the ground. We're not bad at away matches.
The atmosphere has never been the same since they stopped allowing standing areas, we moved to a new modern stadium about ten years ago too which has not helped the atmosphere in all honesty. It's not just us I think but a lot of clubs where the atmosphere seems to have become a lot more sedate. I miss the good old days, I don't condone all the fighting and hooliganism 20 years or more ago but the atmosphere had a real edge and excitement to it that you just don't get now.
IF ONLY.... all singers could be in the North stand .. I am sure the noise level would be fantastic . Never realised before just how much the east stand do have different chants going at the same time till Saturday when I took my 2 nieces in the west stand and had a view of the east stand saw the different chants being sung. Will take my neices in e3 next time which is my usual spot ... Thought there was talk of the north stand being given to home fans not so long ago.. It would make a great KOP I think
Ah I see, there are divides between fans in my country so I wondered if it was like that. Much more civil by the sounds of it. Thanks for the replies
I quite enjoyed the early 70's myself ... Would love the north stand to be split in half ... Home singers and away fans. As they use to at BP at times.
I sit just in front of the Ultras so it's the other way round for me; I get mucky looks if I don't join in with chants! It's very rare that I don't join in though. It depends on the standard of the pie that day really.
