Short is to blame for the board room appointments which have been poor, but the managers he backed, all seemed decent appointments at the time, and all should have done better given their reputations and the money they spent, only Big Sam lived up to expectation, the rest have been very poor, worst of all being Dour Dave imo, all in all Short has been very unlucky but cant be said not to have tried. Sadly he could have avoided the current situation with very little outlay but seems to have lost his nerve just at the wrong time.
I think the likes of O'Neil, PDC and Poyet would have improved, especially the latter to who were both talented but inexperienced managers. Thing is building a squad can't be done in one window, it can take a few to get things clicking, all our managers have been getting one window and that's the lot. Yes we may have been relegated earlier but would be have been worse off? I suggest not. Maybe we needed to stick with a manager and suffered relegation earlier and actually stuck to one of those managers visions, we could have been back up and stronger by now.
And I would have stuck with Paulo, Preached the truth, was willing to ruffle some arrogant feathers to sort it out. No other manager has been prepared to do it and most seem to add to an already disharmonious dressing room.
Absoloutely agree, but it is a gamble whichever way you go, and yes Short has acted with haste and been wrong at times, but more frequently just plain unlucky imo.
I would take back PDC now, loved his commitment and no nonsense approach, odd that he has not had a chance elsewhere.
Probably one of Shorts biggest mistakes not backing PDC. He would have sorted Rodwell out no mistake.
I believe that all the lads on here who hounded Paulo out have got exactly what they deserve for believing all the s hite the press wrote about him to suit their agenda.
I was just thinking that. Feels like Rodwell has been an issue for you guys since the dawn of time but Di Canio was actually pre-Rodwell. It really was a slow and steady decline for those last few Premiership years. Next year in the Championship is going to be brutal I reckon. West Brom, Stoke, Southampton are all teams who should be targetting a quick return to the Premiership and then you've got some at the top of the Championship who are looking lethal right now. Lets hope they burn themselves out prior to your return in 19/20 season.
