Good summation Bri before the side tracks , I enjoy your views on the team as they are very perceptive, hope you and Tees are well this morning.
There were many ( me included) at Elland Road didn’t think he would do it. But fair play to him he managed it.
If we got rid of Coleman now, who would replace him? Are there any big enough idiots to take the job on, who are good enough to get us promoted from league one ? I personally don't think Coleman can be blamed for this mess. His hands were tied and he had to make do with buying/loaning 3rd choice players (fletcher and GK). He is also a name that might be able to convince our youth players to stay
"If we got rid of Coleman now, who would replace him?" Mick Mac Paddywack seems to be available since leaving Suffolk, and he's probably a 'big enough idiot' to take it on . . . . and he could do it, too
We should stick with Coleman, he has not been able to save our season but it was a tough ask, he has been criticised by me and others for too cautious an approach to games and poor substitutions, but what can anyone do with the shocking defenders at his disposal. What I like about him., is his honesty in letting the fans know about the situation he is in, as far as planning for next season is concerned, my only worry is the non existent level of support he seems to be receiving might result in him walking away, and honestly who could blame him.
Can't see Coleman walking away. If he does he won't get a big job again. He staked his reputation on us and at the moment he has failed. If he takes us back up and improves us in the championship he may be seen as a success but at the moment he has failed. 2 home games in a row he has swapped a centre half for Clarke Salter with 10 mins to go. Both games we've then gone on t concede. These 2 decisions in my eyes are ridiculous. You don't change your centre backs unless they are injured or maybe if your 4-0 down. We've been in winning positions in the last 4 games and ****ed them all up. Coleman must take responsibility for this. If we had held on in them all we would have probably been safe. If we had held on in 2-3 of them hem we would still have a fighting chance. I don't blame Ellis short for this season. Yes he didn't give any money to the manager but honestly in his position would any of you? He has been reasonably generous in the last 6-7 years and seen **** all return on any investment. Maybe he could have given 5 million to spend in January but with Colemans overly cautious mentality and shocking substitutions I doubt this would have saved us. Personally I don't mind either way if Coleman stays or goes. The only positive I have from him is it seems he wants to be here. Doesn't make him the right man necessarily but I'm willing to give him 15-20 games next season to make a judgement on him. Can still see this getting worse next season. The one thing we can't defend is balls into the box. League one is going to be grim watching. Players in that league are physical and quick. They can't play great football so get the ball into the box as soon as possible. Sort out defending balls into the box and we might be ok. Don't and we could go straight through that league as well.
Those 6 to 7 years of misspent funds, bad decisions are surely to blame on short, leading to no funds being available for the last 2 seasons. Who bloody green lighted the decision to sell Manonne and buy in the waste of space GKs who have cost us more than 20 points this season? It wasn't Coleman.
Good post - I agree with most of it. However..... I can see Coleman walking if he is getting players sold from under him with no funds to replace them. Also, I would blame Short for what has happened to us this season. The long term problems that led to our relegation were manifested when he held an executive position at the Club. We took those problems down with us this season and continued to suffer
No i don't think the mis spent funds are his fault. All he done on them was sign the cheques for the money he made available. Those signings were nothing to do with short they were obviously players that managers, chief executives and scouts had identified and short just said yeah ok that's within your budget sign him. The Manonne deal is a funny one I agree as £2 million wasn't going to help anything in the grand scheme. However we as fans don't know what was going on behind the scenes. It was possibly Bain who sanctioned that deal thinking oh well we signed him for nothing we are making a profit and it makes our wage bill better. It's not shorts fault we signed 3 awful goalkeepers however. Yes our budget was never going to accommodate a great keeper but I'm sure we could have got an average one. An average keeper would have kept us up. The squad we have is in my opinion good enough to have at least stayed up this season therefore I lay the blame for this season on both the managers as well as the players. The mess the entire club is in is Ellis Shorts fault. When I say I don't blame him I mean I don't blame the decisions he made from his point of view. He isn't a fan so all this relegation hurts is his bank account which he's in the process of trying to protect by putting in as little as possible and trying to take out as much as possible. This club over 6-7 years has cost his personal fortune somewhere around £200 million. Someone with no real affiliation to the club or area is not going to continue adding to that in a vein hope of it all suddenly turning around. He's had his fingers badly burned by us and the cretins in charge of recruitment so his mindset is now get out of this with as little damage as possible.
