IF DeJong did go to Chelsea after such a protracted “all or nothing” effort from the club to get him, will we all agree that the whole thing has been a complete shambles that could and should have been avoided? After the multiple times the player said he was not willing to move to Manchester and that he was keen to play CL football? Why did we persist and refuse to take him at his word when everyone could see it was going to end in failure and humiliation? This makes ****ing Ed Woodward almost competent.
I agree with the points that CS raised from the sole perspective of how much time we have burned chasing one player that may not be the final jig in the puzzle. It is painful to understand how we could have spent the whole of the summer basically fkin around politicking. Even if we end up getting the player, the nature of this deal may end up bringing unnecessary pressure on the player who would be expected almost instantly deliver the goods. This is the cascading effect of how bad our transfer policy is. Think of every player that we have bought in this manner over the last few years. The prolonged drama became the highlight of their of their United careers.Hold fire on that thought Christian. It's important to read the exact details/wording of what's being reported. The devil is literally in the detail.
1) When the press are reporting that Chelsea are close to a deal, it makes it sound like they're close to buying him. That's not true. What it means is an agreement on price with Barca. Something we've already done a month ago. Fabrizio Romano has stated this morning that Chelsea are only just considering making an offer to Barca.
2) Also, United allegedly have personal terms agreed with Frenkie's agent.
3) And everywhere is reporting that Chelsea are going for a double swoop for Aubamayeng and De Jong. Chelsea themselves havecsaid they've made no offer for Auba and he's just an option they're considering.
I'd wait until this saga plays out before posting anything tbh.
BTW if De Jong doesn't come to us and/or does go to Chelsea, don't buy the media driven ABU rhetotic that United can't attract the big players. 16 years ago a certain Michael Ballack was heavily coveted by Fergie. He thought at the time United were on the decline and chose Chelsea. Something he has publicly said. This sort of stuff happens regardless. We went on to win league titles and the CL btw.
At my age the memory lets me down, please name them all.I agree with the points that CS raised from the sole perspective of how much time we have burned chasing one player that may not be the final jig in the puzzle. We wouldn't lose deJong to the Chavs solely on the basis that they coughed up the extra 17m - which, if I'm not wrong, isn't allowed under FIFA rules.De Jong's situation will be decided in days I think. We can wait that long.
The ONLY thing that'll fck me off at the end of all this is:
1) He stays at Barca - because then there's no excuses from us wasting a whole transfer window on him.
2) We lose him to the chavs because they were prepared to pay the £17m and we weren't.
I'm still hopeful he'll be coming to us.

Anyway, we might lose out because they have offloaded two players to Barca at surprisingly low transfer fees (go figure) plus they are looking to take two of Barca's most expensive wage earners off the books for inflated transfer fees - that's why we'd lose him.
I know I've read that debts owing or payments due to players cannot be included in any transfer payment. Of course it can be circumventedWhich is why I said "because", meaning if that was the reason for the loss then I would consider that a failure on our part. If we lose out to chavs for other reasons then so be it, we can't do anything about that. As for FIFA rules... please come on.

The way they've treated him, regardless of any transfer, I can't see him playing for the club again. It's a strange world we live in when a player (apparently) wants to stay at a club who have asked him to leave, reneged on a defered pay agreement, given him a pay cut, and agreed his transfer to another club, possibly even two.
His wife must really, really, really like living in Barcelona.

It is incredible. My only assumption (and it's been in my mind for a while) is that it was his dream club because of Cruyff (another Dutchman) who is considered such a legend there, and that De Jong wants to emulate that. And he knows if he leaves that's his one chance over with, as it's highly unlikely he'll ever get another.
He must be extremely idealistic and borderline stupid if this Cruyff thing is what is driving his decision making. It is incredible. You know this is why I'm not believing a thing until it actually happens.
Twitter and all that bollocks is just noise, these cretins are just windmilliing and anyone takes it 100% on board as the truth is utterly baffling.
I don't know what de Jong 'wants', and wouldn't pretend that I do.
I do know human nature though, and it's very hard to believe any bloke in his right mind, after being treated in such a way, would be 'desperate' to stay at a club like Barca ****ing lona.

Equally, I really question the wellness of all the players that are all lining up to join that fkin club. It is truly unbelievable! Footballers huh!
