News just in that United are intent on buying "a young but ready number 9." but "the process will take some time as the club want to make the decision with the newly appointed manager"

    Strikers? Who?

Yeah I'd say him or Martinez are the two best ready young forwards, at the moment.

I honestly don't remember him. Sounds like we're after him as soon as I googled his name.

Not sure he's a number 9, though. He seems more of a wide player in a front 3. Saying that, I'm not sure if there's any such thing as a number 9 these days!

What about Schick? He had a brilliant Euros and he's tearing the Bundesliga up now. He's destined to play for a major club.

Schick is class tbf. I think when Rangnick moves upstairs he'll have a lot of say in who we go for including the manager.

If we go for Schick or Isak he'll have a lot to do with it imo. Just feels very different to what we've been doing the past 8/9 years where we'd be spending most of the summer chucking £100m at Kane.

Like i said earlier, with Woodward in charge we bought names not players.
No thought at all as to if they would fit the squad or managers style, just a star name to make us look big.

EDIT.........hopefully that is the whole point of Ralf's appointment as interim, to assess the squad and select a manager who's style will get the best out of them in the future.

I agree. I think there'll be a new mindset and a collective strategy between Arnold and Rangnick... and we finally get run like a proper football club again.

    At least I hope so.

This surely has to be the case!!

The penny has to drop, they can't keep running round with their fingers in their ears ignoring what is patently right in front of them.

    It's a fairly simple plan;

Recruit the next manager. Make sure he understands what is required, buys into it, and is ready for when he has to take over the job. To my mind, there are three candidates in Louis Enrique, Ten Haag and Pochettino. If we have to wait for Enrique until after the world cup, if he is the right man, then we wait. We do not panic and employ someone unemployed and available.

We let Pogba go. We let Cavani go. We speak to Ronaldo about his intentions and, if not marrying up with what the club require, we also let him go. We let Lingard go. We let Mata go, we let Matic go.

All of them, for free. Good bye and thank you.

We sell Dean Henderson. I would sell Luke Shaw personally, and I would also sell Victor Lindelof.

We bring back Donny van de Beek. We bring back Axel Tuanzebe. We bring back Tedgen Mengi. We bring back James Garner.

We buy a centre forward. If Ronaldo leaves, we would need two.

We buy a centre midfielder. An actual, box to box, workhorse, centre midfielder.

And from that, we try to make us back into a football club.

    Agree completely.

I actually think it's something to look forward to and if it's as we think, something to be excited about.

This plan is resourceful, comprehensive and takes the team back to the basics.

I also like the emphasis on waiting for the right manager. I personally wouldn’t go for Poch as I’ve said many times. I think Diego is with that notion too. We would be dancing to the media’s music if we limited ourselves to what they usually present as the “obvious” choice. There is nothing obvious about picking one particular manager that will lead the transformation to a proper club. In my opinion, Enrique would be better fit.

“New Man United chief Richard Arnold is 'backing Ralf Rangnick's pursuit of Erik ten Hag as the club's new manager' even though first-team stars would prefer PSG's Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Old Trafford this summer”

Players picking their own manager. That’s the kind of event that never ends well. If Poch comes in, it certainly must never be because these so-called stars wanted him. Fkin useless stars!!

Has VDB been sold or loaned ?

Think the above is pretty much spot on
Finding the discussions taking place on your board right now really interesting, i wont post loads as it isn’t really my place to.

The prospect of you guys getting Ten Hag worries me way more than you getting Poch. Poch seems like a good manager but not sure he would be strong enough to do whats required at your club. The thing i always find puzzling in football clubs is that generally the sensible fans usually know and understand what a club needs. Sometimes it takes the club a while to catch up with the fan base.

depressingly (sorry :) ) it seems to me like you guys are on the right path.

I think there comes a point where a club stops trying to fix a problem with a quick fix which invariably becomes another problem, and instead wipes the slate and says, right how do we want to run the club, how do we want to play, what structure do we need to deliver that and who are best people to fit into those roles to deliver it, and bring in the players to play the way we want and need them to.

In the recent past we've done one of two things. Either

    a) tried to do the above in a half-arsed way i.e. LVG with a **** infrastructure led by Woodward.

    Or

    b) tried the quick fix e.g. Jose and then Ole (although Ole could be considered a) also.

But now, it seems we've genuinely got a blank slate and can create what we want. Woodward has gone. We've got Arnold who isnt a football man but unlike Woodward, he seems to want to trust someone else, namely Murtough and Rangnick with that side of things and the 3 of them will work to rebuild the club.

Their first task is to recruit the manager, and then the 4 will rebuild the team.

I don't give a **** if it takes another season to get our ducks in a row. Because I'm genuinely excited by what we have the potential to do here. And because Ten Hag comes with a high rep but isn't known to the prem, I'm hedging towards him for the same reasons.

I've realised the desire it has to be fixed immediately is exactly the fanboy attitude which has cost us 8 years, so clearly it doesn't work. And in hindsight it was always patently obvious it never would.
