Everything iv'e read says he won't be ready to play until October, that's a fair chunk of the season.

So 2 months at least, given he'll have the op when he comes back. So had he had it done after the Europy final he'd have been ready by start of the season.

Looks like we'll be relying on Martial, Cavani and Sancho as our front 3 then?

James can play left ok'ish, don't remember Mason getting much time there only via cross overs/wandering. Can he play there?

I think you're right about James. I'd imagine Greenwood would play more centrally, rotating with Cavani?

Much as I'm frustrated by Martial, I'm interested to see how he plays with Sancho and Cavani. Could it provide him with the space and freedom to roam which he's sometimes stifled by?

Martial's best football over the years has been from the left flank. He has good techniques to penetrate through the left, and in my opinion, makes better decision than Rashford in that position. I'd like to see him play there again.

Also, don't forget that Sancho played most of last season on the left flank. He's very effective there too.

We certainly won't be short of options to cover for Rashford.

Replace one frustrating player who has little end product and runs into cul de sacs... with another.

If Pep really is shipping Sterling out then I give him credit.

Com’on! Sterling at his best is better than Martial at his best. But I don’t think we need Sterling at United.

There's no best here, just different degrees of "meh"

Most teams will take Sterling’s degree of meh over Martial’s.

It’s ridiculous of us to sit here and pretend as though Sterling’s output is average. Every metric suggests that he’s been one of the better players in the league in the past few years. This is not a matter of opinion.

If I had a choice between Harvey Barnes or Sterling, I'd take Barnes all day long.

I'm not saying Sterling is ****, he's good on the ball and runs at players. Problem is, when he gets to them he'll try and pass through their legs 9 times out of 10, which never comes off. It just bounces off their legs. The reason he does this btw is because he's limited as a player WHEN he has time to think.

    ^^^^

    Yeah, this.

Anyone would surely be joking suggesting Sterling as a potential signing?

    He's ****e, the end.

Oh, and while we're at it, an absolute ****ing coward for not stepping up for a penalty last Sunday.

    To be honest, **** off.

If only a lot of our players could have been as sht as Sterling, I’m sure we would have been 9 points better off where we ended last season.

Enough with the penalty drama already! And after seeing how those that missed the penalties got treated, can you really blame anyone for not wanting to be a part of the stupid drama? Sterling didn’t cost England the match, the manager’s tactics did.

No, he didn't, and I didn't say he had.

That's not really the point being made though, is it?

What is the point being made then? He had a chance to take a penalty and he passed it on to someone else because he didn’t feel comfortable. And that somehow makes him a coward in your eyes. What’s the problem that we’re getting visceral about other than the fact that we’re clutching straws for a game lost on penalties.

We're not going to buy him so it's a moot point anyway. I'm more concerned about the Varana saga developing. Hope he's not doing a Ramos and using us to secure a better contract at Real.

I really don't want us to be caught up in this signing at the expense of other positions which need addressing and we end up addressing neither come the end of the transfer window.

I agree that I don't think we need "a Sterling" in the team. We need to make the players that we already have earn their wages. Unless we actually start offloading some to make room.

Yeah, what is going on with the Varane saga? Every start of the week I'm reading that we would make a bid. Same thing - week in, week out! Why are United transfers so Hollywood pictures like?
