Looking at the 6 clubs who probably be down at the bottom with possibly us - just compare their managers to our new one and see who you would prefer to be in charge

Watford - Quique Sanchez - no premiership experience - better than Ranieri ?
Bournemouth - Eddie Howe - no premiership experience - better than Ranieri?
Norwich - Alex Neil - no premiership experience - better than Ranieri?
Sunderland - Dick Advocaat - has premiership experience - better than Ranieri ?
Newcastle - Steve McLaren - has premiership experience - better than Ranieri ?
Villa - Tim Sherwood - has premiership experience - better than Ranieri ?

In my humble opinion Ranieri is at least equal to all of the above.
I suppose the key is seeing how the players respond and also the unknowns from above
so no clearer there then!<laugh>

That is a very good point to be fair.
 
I am happy with his appointment - yes there is an argument that we could/should have taken a risk but lets be honest, we almost miraculosly survived last season and aren't in a position to take risks.

I for one won't be acting like Newcastle or Blackpool fans over this appointment.

We can't appoint managers who aren't interested in applying for the job.

MON has now knocked us back on 2 occasions, because would he not have been the one that the owners would have preferred if he had applied? Of the rest who were touted around I think we have ended up with the one with the best record, so why wouldn't he have been selected? And like others have said already, we are currently only a bottom third club in the Premier League, so we can't realistically expect to attract the world's current top managers .

Everyone wants success, but we have to realistically define what that means for us based on where we are now. We have some half decent players, but not top Premier League quality ones. At least not yet. An experienced manager like Ranieri, who has worked with some of the world's best players, could prove invaluable in developing the current squad. We should not try to run before we can walk. The manager and the rest of the team running the club have a lot of work to do to get us into an established top half of the table team - which is realistically the next level that we should be aiming for - something like Everton have achieved. Forget top 6 and all that nonsense for the next few years; we have to make sure we can consolidate in the top 10 and then move forward on a solid foundation. I don't want to see us yo-yoing up and down the table and flirting with relegation. This will all take time and patience, and that is something that is in short supply with many fans, and some will be looking unrealistically for instant success. Let's see where we are at the end of the season and then we can judge this appointment.

apart from Dick Advocaat the is not one manager on the list that has managed to the same level as Ranieri. would i swap for any of them? no
 
What Gary Lineker appears to have said is that the appointment is 'uninspiring' ... possibly it is .. but then who would he have found inspiring? Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola, Simeone? ... so would I, but relaistically they were never in the frame ...

Claudio Ranieri has a very good track record at some of the biggest clubs in European football ... but more importantly he has also proven that he can build and shape teams to both improve and even challenge fo honours ... if he can do that fo us I certainly won't be complaining ... and that is what we need - to push on from where we are...

Do I worry that it is 10 years since he managed in the Prem? - not really. He has managed in the top leagues in Europe and would have had a managerial learning curve in each when he first started there ... he succeeded as history shows .... does the Greek 'tragedy' make him a poor manager? ... not at all in my book ... international managers are constrained by the players available ... the Greeks have been in decline since their 'golden generation' won the European Championship ... contrast with Wales ... is their continuing rise squarely down to Chris Coleman's fabulous management skills? ... or does that Wales team just about pick itself? Capello's failure at Russia looks to be far poorer then Ranieri with Greece as he actually had a pretty good talent pool to select from ...

I can understand an instant "Ranieri, Leicester, thats surely not going to work", but think they should take a few days to absorb information before going wild on twitter.

Lineker has never managed - so his qualifications for judging managers are somewhat tenuous ...
Neither has Savage .... who is also a knob .... and would obviously have preferred his mate to have been given the job ... as would Muzzy who I heard interviewed this morning ...
Didi played for Liverpool - and therefore hardly likely to be positive to anything remotely Chelsea tinted ...
Richard Keys is worse than all .......... he is a Coventry fan ... very surprised that he hasn't found anything positive in a Leicester City appointment ... <laugh>

If you have ever heard Mickey Quinn on TalkSport giving his weekly matchday predictions you would soon completely ignore his prediction for Man Utd - at best they will only get a draw because "terby honest, I still don't tink dare all dat ..." blah blah ..."burif Liverpool get Sturridge back dey'll be Champions League forshore" ...

I don't see how you couldn't be sceptical about this appointment.

He has nothing to prove, has history of being sacked (he's raked in over 10m in compensation fees) and plays football completely different to the style that Pearon has built the club around.


I really hope he proves me wrong, but I don't see how we're going to improve on last season.

Looking at things that way doesnt mean anything

This time last year Steve Bruce and Harry Redknapp had loads of prem experience while NP had about 5 games and look how things turned out

It looks like you are the only one that is skeptical.

What I am seeing is that a club which barely stayed in the Premier League and has no real history on the world stage has appointed a world renowned manager.

We are not an established Premier League team - I bet the odds have us as one of the favourite to go down so we needed a proper manager, not someone that needs work.

We have ridiculously experienced manager that has worked with some of the backroom staff so he will have trusting faces to get him up to speed, has worked with some of the team, knows football at this level and higher and - most importantly imho - actually wanted to come.

As for the way we play, it looks like all of the backroom staff might be staying now so they can get him up to speed and he has played this way before - high pressing counter attack is basically what I used to watch on Football Italia back in the day.

Remember that you are a Leicester supporter - so keep the faith!

Well I suppose it depends where our ambitions lie. I'd rather we were comparing our manager to Palace, Swansea, Southampton, West Ham, Stoke etc rather than teams that will struggle. The above merely backs my original opinion that we'll neither go down or progress.

Fair enough ... for me I'll give him 10 PL games before really judging him ... unless he starts Konch in the first game .. if that's the case I'll be the George Clooney lookalike hoisting the "Ranieri Out" banner at the Spurs game <laugh>
