    I don’t even think in this current discussion that it matters what people think has more “sporting merit”.

    The point is that the vague use of “sporting merit” allows leagues to use practically any of the available options for choosing the teams who get European football. Coefficients, PPG, last seasons standings, current standings, some kind of play offs, finishing the league, and any other number of possible ways of deciding the teams all fall under the term “sporting merit”.

    It’s a way of UEFA saving face when allowing teams to enter when leagues have been cancelled whilst entirely leaving it up to the leagues to make their own decisions about who qualifies and how.

    It literally leaves every option on the table except for a lucky dip.

    Hahaha!! Hadnt thought of that. But its STILL fairer than null and void. I suppose well just have to see what UEFA makes of this Dutch thing. But this is indisputable now - both UEFA and at least one prem chairman quoted by tobes have said liverpool will be crowned champions either by finishing of the games or curtailing the league. The rest is just the VAR argument they were going to use, but now with tens of thousands of martyrs

    Well presumably the facility fees are also paid at the end too as the amounts wouldn't be known.

    Sky and BT have already paid the PL for this season, hence all the talk of refunds. Some overseas rights are currently witholding the final payments for this season.
