Another article on football financial issues just in case anyone here feels like engaging with the real world (understandable if you don't)

    https://theathletic.co.uk/1679668/2020/03/16/exclusive-uefa-275m-euro2020-coronavirus/

European football’s governing body will demand compensation of about £275 million from its clubs and leagues to postpone Euro 2020 by a year in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

This is what UEFA estimates it will cost to push the European Championships back by 12 months to June 2021 and was intended to be relayed to European football’s stakeholders in emergency meetings on Tuesday, during which it will be confirmed the tournament will be delayed by a year.

The clear priority of member leagues and clubs is to somehow complete the current season rather than abort competitions and treat the existing standings as final or rule the campaign null and void, given the numerous legal challenges that would be guaranteed to arise as a result.

Except as usual you've quoted from some dodgy news source with no quotes.

And yet when someone posts actual quotes, you know like from the head of a national league quoting a meeting between UEFA and its 55 member federation, you choose to ignore it.

But yeh, you're the one that's engaging in the real world.

so they are in effect telling leagues to pull the plug on the season and call it null so the players will be ready to play some 2nd rate International tournament, great stuff <ok>

No they're saying they're delaying the Euros at a cost of £275m is far, far cheaper than not finishing existing seasons and refunding TV companies <ok>

    That article is abject nonsense.

Firstly, they’ve already pushed Euro 2020 back a year, due solely to the Worldwide pandemic.

There is no net fiscal cost to that, merely a movement of the revenue from 2020 to 2021. The idea that UEFA will somehow hold the leagues responsible for that is contractually and legally illiterate.

Many schools already accepting that next term will be home schooling. But the PL will play to a conclusion because John Aldridge thinks it would be “wrong” to write off Liverpool’s seeeeeeeeeeeeason.

    What?

The summer tournament has been cancelled for the same reason the Olympics has - COVID-19.

The idea that it’s been shunted due to the completion of domestic leagues that have no date for resumption, is absolutely ludicrous.

You’re consistently citing a website that is a subscription site, one that is patently punting angles that attract clicks and thus subscribers. No shock that they’re currently seeking to attract the likes of you mate.

It transfers revenue from one year to the next in the main.

In case it’s escaped your notice, virtually every business on the planet, barring the food sector and it’s distribution network, is sieving cash like there’s no tomorrow at present ffs. The idea that football should be somehow excluded from this harsh reality is for the birds

I also made you aware earlier, that the PL is currently sat on circa £1.5BN of cash reserves. Guess what? They’re going to have to dip into it. **** happens and it has, get over it.
