Hurst went with a bit more experience today with Spence, Skuse and Walters. I thought Spence was poor, didn't help in attack enough. Skuse was just Skuse but Chalobah did ok. Walters was good up front and showed why he was worth bringing back.
I’m getting fed up with this already... it feels like the blind leading the blind. Is anyone still feeling optimistic about the manager and our chances of being a Championship club next season?
He held the ball up and brought people into play more than Jackson or Harrison have up until this point of the season.
Had a couple of chances to wrap it up at 1-0,I thought Walters did OK and will contribute more as he gets to know his teammates,Pennington looks a good acquisition.
Scattered first impressions here after the match, poor first half performance, better second half. Good debut for Pennington, won almost everything, but Edwards our man of the match. Seemingly the only player in the first half trying to do something. Walters and Nolan looked decent overall. Jordan Graham was poor, and I didn’t think much of Jackson either. We had an amazing spell for 20 minutes in second half but generally looked disjointed. Four players making their first starts this season and I think it told. Having said that, Gerken in goal was a good move (if very baffling before the match). Saving grace is that Norwich looked average, hopefully a sign of their decline. September is massive for us as we have games against Hull, Bolton, and Birmingham. Need to get a couple of wins against them.
With an away game and then two games coming up against stronger opponents, the first win may come down to the Birmingham match and by then we could be a bit stranded and remain in the bottom three even with a win. We need to see a bit more fight from Hurst because with the best will in the world, he is starting to run out of road. Let's make no bones about it, conceding that goal was a massive blow.
Just stopped at Clayton Crown for a steak on a pie before my long journey home. My thoughts on today: - 2 distinctively average sides playing Like lower mid table teams - Atmosphere was decent - Walters looked very useful.. As did Pennington - Jackson’s first touch was pretty dreadful all game - Side looked a bit disjointed still - odd line up & set up - Nolan looks a good player but not able to put his authority on a match - Norwich kept the ball well but offered very little
What areas of the pitch / players? I am absolutely confused now as to what the hell we can do and who should and shouldn't be in the side.
A couple of bright spots from the game... Gerken, although nothing really to do, his distribution was good, and made one instinctive game saving save . Pennington looked assured, and could be a good player for us. Walters was also winning every header, and though he didn't score, was our best outlet. Nolan, nice touches, but lightweight (same goes for Chalobah). Jackson worked his socks off, but no end product . First half was a non event, first 15 of the 2nd half we were all over them, pressed much higher up, and we got the goal we deserved. Williams had a good chance to make it 2, but was a poor effort . In fact, I'm not overly sold on Williams yet. .takes players on and runs, but again, no end product.. .our crossing was awful. Everyone else was just average.. As someone said above, two poor teams
I agree with you to an extent. But at least he shows spells of high quality if not ever for 90 or even 45 minutes.
Issue we're going to have moving forwards is Edwards is such an obvious player for the opposition to stop. Walters helps a bit in creating space, but right now as the opposition you take these 2 out the game - what do we have!? Also, how in gods name was Edun an unsued sub today? Disgrace that. Good player.
