I would'nt go as far as Jayram as messi is STILL only 24 and there's some other amazing talents worth mentioning like Mario Goetze but i have no doubt wilshere will be amonge the very best in the World.

Modric is nowhere near effective enough to be even considered in that league.

and yes Wilshere is already better than him.

What Prejudice? I’m stating a fact English media favour English players thats a Fact! its in their best interest to highlight them any chance they get which is perfectly understandable, however many of the foreign players do not get the same treatment for example you could argue that Nasri deserved the award having been player of the month on a number of occasions last seasons and in some cases winning games singlehandedly, even Bale was more deserving of the award than Parker as he was fantastic for Spurs.

Calling me Prejudice for stating facts highlights your own ignorance and the fact that you’re resorting to insulting other members suggests your not mature enough to have a constrictive conversation. <ok>

I also think Modric has the ability of being able to find space continuously and know's exactly what's happening around him. I def agree that it's unfair to judge players like modric and Wilshere on just goals and assists as they bring so much more to their teams. It was one of you guys that bought these stats into it to compare the 2 players (and claimed they showed Wilshere was better when they had them wrong and they showed modric to be better). Wilshere is a great player no doubt and I guess we'll find out if comparisons between Modric become laughable. But nothing is just destined and at the moment they are definitely comparable players and Modric is the better player IMO (maybe naturally biased but I'm confident most neutrals would agree). Best player on the planet is extremely optimistic considering Messi is not much older!

Do you agree then that the Wilshere is unfairly favoured to other players because he is English. Do you feel he is not as good as he is made out to be. Just curious.

Modric and Wilshere are both top players, the latter will go on to become the better player imo.

I read an article on the BBC that suggest that Spurs were now the best team in the Capital...

Spurs have got a good team, but they have got a long way to go to prove that they can surpass Arsenal, and Chelsea
they need demonstrate that they have a team capable of challenging for the title
and need to prove that they can win trophies consistently to even be considered in the same bracket.

Losing to Rubin Kazan in the Europa and being one place above Shamrock Rovers suggests they still have a way to go.

(P.S. the BBC article, I now notice has been swiftly replaced by a story about Steve Bruce - <laugh>)

If you look over the last few months, Newcastle have been better....

No I believe in some cases there are English players who genuinely incredible Wilshire being one of them, however the number of English players highlighted for being Amazing is disproportionate to the number of players who are actually good.

Take the likes of Gareth Barry, James Milner, Theo Walcott who are constantly praised by the media and don’t appear to put a foot wrong, in actuality Barry and Milner are average players while Walcott is no where near consistent enough to be considered class and is in my opinion often included in the England team because of his game against Croatia.

You only have too look at facts to see that the majority of English players are not as good as they are made out to be, the last World Cup illustrated that in actual fact England is very weak in comparison to the likes of Spain, Germany, Holland etc. They were even able to beat a relatively weak Algeria team yet the Media prior to the tournament would have you believe that the current England team were favourites to win the whole tournament.

I rate Wilshire highly as well as the likes of Rooney and Gerrard however the rest of the so called big names are in my opinion nothing more than media hype.

It's probably rarer to find someone as good as Messi so it is definitely possible. He's definitely got the right attitude to keep on going and going.

Or other players maybe?

At Dynamo Zagreb but I don't see what's that got to do with anything. I'm not disputing that Wilshere MAY (or may not) become a better player than Modric or that he is a great player. I was just sharing my opinion that right now Modric is the better player. And considering Modric was from Croatia what more could he realistically done other than play for a team in Crotia. Using your logic I can say the same about Messi or Rooney. Both were regulars for club and country at 17. Where was Wilshere at 17?

I agree both are great. As for the future nobody can tell and we'll have to wait and see. We'll witness some great football from both of them finding out though. I think that's a good summary.

I read the article too and it does not state we are the best team. It says there is a chance we could finish the season as the best and you cannot disagree with that as all the teams have a chance. I don't understand why we need to be title challengers to be the best London team at that time. I feel whoever finishes highest in the league has been the better team.

BTW this Rubin Kazan team beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp last season. Add to the fact we were using back up and reserve players and that Russia is a difficult place to go surely means this does not prove anything about other London sides. I'm pretty sure you've had problems travelling to Russia in the past. Your only place above Norwich in the league. What does that tell you about Arsenal then? (Not trying to be disrespectful to Norwich, or to Arsenal for that matter).

So you do admit there are cases where English players are not overhyped. Judging by your previous comments it appeared you had made your opinion on Parker without actually watching him properly and just assumed because he is English he is overrated. After watching Parker he justifies the praise he gets. What he brings to a team is huge. And Parker wasn't in the world cup squad so he can't be loved by the media that much otherwise he would have definitely been there!

Sorry mate but I don't know why you keep bringing Modric into this. I'm not judging on who will become the better player. Only on who is better right now. If you agree they are comparable then surely I am allowed to have my opinion that he is a better player at the moment? Most neutrals seemed to have agreed with me.

As for Rooney IMO they have similar characteristics. Both fiery characters, fairly aggressive and determined. Depending on how they are controlled these can be very useful characteristics within football, but at the same time both players seem to be similar. This is an outside view on both players so you might know Wilshere better obviously. Just to point out though - Rooney was 18 when he moved to Man U and Modric 22 when he moved to Spurs - not that it makes a difference in my opinion to how good they are now.

Please don’t twist my words, my initial post merely stated that the English media are biased towards English players I never once suggested that all English players are overhyped and are therefore rubbish. The previous article I answered suggested that Parker was better than Song as he had won player of the year which I stated was heavily influenced by English media. I have watched Parker on a number of occasions and have not just assumed anything. My point was merely to highlight that not all English players deserve the praise they receive especially when their are foreign players who are far more talented but are often ignored.

At the end of the day Parker wasn’t in the World Cup because Capello didn’t pick him this further suggests that he's not as good as he's often claimed to be, the media do not have the power to choose the player so I don’t understand why you seem to think they do.

If Scot Parker was as good as you claim he would be a first choice in the England team and would have been successful at Chelsea instead of being sold by them. However he couldnt get into the England squad just as he couldn’t get into the Chelsea team simply because he is not good enough.

Players like Rooney, Wilshire and Gerrard deserve all the praise they receive especially Rooney and Gerrard as they have competed at the highest level consistently, Wilshire on the other hand is still developing but his performances against the likes of Barca illustrate why he deservers the praise he receives.

Wilshere was not in that England squad either! And Parker actually is a first choice in the England squad now. Using your logic, if Robben, Sneidjer or VDV were any good they would have been successful at Real Madrid. Do you think Song would have got into that Chelsea squad ahead of Makelele or Essien?

Not sure why this is but I think one good thing he has going for him is that he is not under the same intense pressure Rooney was under. Especially with England. The whole country wrongly placed all their hopes that Rooney could take them to the world cup by himself without considering the other players. It seems now they have finally realised that squad as a whole is not good enough. Rooney was also the most expensive teenager in history (and still might be) and had immediate pressure to justify his huge move while Wilshere has always been at Arsenal.

Firstly Friedels nearly 40 and although a decent stopper, he's not as good as he was a couple of years ago.(even then he was'nt exactly 'World Class')

Yes Brazil's no.1 left back vs France's 4th choice left back.

Again. Song is Intergral to his National team and a regular in the Champions League. Parker failed to make an impact at the top level (Chelsea), has failed to cement a place in Englands national side and was relegated with West Ham.

Now i think Modric is a quality player with great technique but he's now at his peak and still not contributing high numbers when it comes to goals or assists. He also completely lacks a defensive side to his game. Wilshere at 19 has it all and is potentially Englands most talented youngster since Gascoigne.

I was arguing that you can still be a good (great even) if you don't make it at a big club. You have to consider who else was at the club at the time and different situations. Parker at the time was somewhat unlucky that when he was Chelsea he was playing alongside Makelele and Essien. Look at Chelsea (Mikel), Man U (?) or even Man City (Gareth Barry) right now, I feel Parker would have a good chance of having success at these bigger clubs. Just like VDV would at other big clubs.

Sorry but you've got most of that wrong.

It's Brazil's no.1 left back (if he is that) v Cameroon's 1st choice.
Using your logic Lucas is better than Song (Brazil's 1st choice DM v Cameroon's)
As it is it's Cameroon's 1st choice DM v England's DM
Already explained why Parker left Chelsea (but consider whether Song would've started before Makelele and Essien) and Parker is definitely a started for England now.
Modric does much more than goals and assists, like control and dominate games consistently. If he plays bad we play bad. England's most talented youngster than Gascoigne? Rooney? You probably don't agree but I feel Scholes was also comparable to Wilshere when it comes to natural talent.

Wilshere was not in the England squad due to concerns about his age, why is he always called up now when he’s fit! Song would have been in contention given his current form and I now believe that Song is better than Essien although not as good as a prime Makelele.

I even pointed out to you why I believed he couldn’t get into the team and I was specifically referring to him, yet you managed to bring a completely random and flawed example of an entirely different league and suggest that my Logic says player x couldn’t get into the team because he is not good enough. Your trying to twist my words and clearly have not read what I posted properly so ill say it again

"Scott Parker couldn’t get into the Chelsea team because he was not good enough" I am referring to one player specifically. I did not say that if every who couldn’t get into the first team was not good enough and used one specific example.

Now the reason why the likes of Sneidjer and Robben couldn’t get into Real was because of the politics that is ever present in Spain a new Manager comes in then he is expected to make changes, unfortunately those players were example casualties and in fact Robben and Sneidjer were often in the first team.

Parker was player of the year last year despite playing in a poor west ham team!

I think the length of this thread proves the op right. This is the best team we have had in a VERY LONG while <ok>

I also don't think modric has peaked - he is only 24
