doesn't the fact that he's only on £20k make it all the more stupid that he wasn't offered a contract in the first place? It was that kind of nonsense that Lambert resigned over. Somehow you all seem to think that McNally's a hero when in truth he's no better than our beloved Simon Clegg.
amazing how your mind works! the club has a policy of not offering long term deals to older players. might seem harsh, but giving him a 3-year deal is a risk on big (for us) money. though he got a pay rise, the issue was the length of the deal. we've not broken our wage structure to make him happy, just given him a deal for him to stay till the end of his career. i'm sure he was offered a rise, but not the added years before. it can't have escaped your notice that david mcnally saved our club from the abyss. we were minutes away from going under, now we are less than a year away from being debt-free. the fact he is such a tight-arse with wages is the reason we've got to that situation. lambert left cos we couldn't offer the big wages - but had we changed and said we would, we wouldn't have been able to pay our debts off on time. if you were offered the choice between mcnally and clegg you'd take mcnally and you know it. he's one of the best ceo's in he country.
Well either the club has that policy or it doesn't! It was Lambert who saved the club and in no small part Grant Holt. McNally was in the right place at the right time.
that is the most dopey comment yet! mcnally saved the club - it was him who hired lambert for starters! dear oh dear, if you have no idea what mcnally has done for the club then why comment on it? and to compare him to clegg had me in stitches...
Hampy, got to agree with supers that McNally is better then Clegg. But you have to ask how much of it was luck, would he have appointed Lambchop if Col Who hadn't tonked the budgies? But McNally has shown to be weak in this episode, my thought is that the way Fat **** conducted himself would have McNally sticking his heels in further not to give in.
the answer to that is yes. when we went before the courts over the lambert approach to colchester, we were fined for making contact with lambert during that summer, before the season even started. losing 1-7 was the excuse mcnally had needed to fire gunn, who had been appointed before he was. he was unimpressed with gunn's regime and looked to lambert who he knew from his celtic days. and he hasn't shown any weakness at all. he refused to budge until hughton put his side across. if anything, this shows that he is flexible if approached in the right way - he was annoyed by holt's agent leaking information to the press.
my point is, the debt is only wiped out because Lambert performed a miracle. At the point that McNally had to make a decision he made a poor one that saw Lambert exit and has now backtracked.
The binner fans are demonstrating the reasons why their club is declining with their narrow, misinformed and narrow views.
as you know Supers I've thought all along that he'll jump ship at the first opportunity. That said, I don't think the Holt debacle would've happened had Lambert simply wanted to move on. He was clearly very peeved indeed so it's quite possible he would've stayed had he seen signs of a bit more support and ambition.
well lambert has since suggested he could have got norwich into the top four next season - that is ridiculous - the ambition of lambert was greater than that of norwich at this time. the surprise was that he chose villa over us, though with hindsight its easier to see why he went there. don't forget, holt put his transfer request in before lambert to villa was touted. holt has since said that they made misjudgements and now appreciate why the club did what they did. likewise, i think the club made mistakes by saying 'he's too old', though we all know that this only goes in line with the policy of not offering long term deals to anyone over 30 - we've been stung by that before! we have an agreement with the bank to pay ALL our remaining debts at the end of this season, that is why we are still spending as if we are a championship club. ok, perhaps not a championship clubs transfer funds but certainly the wages are similar because they cannot go up any more than they have this summer. its not done us any harm so far because of good management, but if we stay up next season then we'll be able to push on with our bigger plans. had lambert remained patient then that would have been great but i understand how ambitious he is and he wasn't prepared to wait - he wanted it all now. the club simply couldn't move as quickly as lambert wanted which is a shame but i think we as fans are all perfectly comfortable with that now we understand about the debt being cleared on time. the banks did us a favour when we were in league one - we'd have folded without them allowing us to restructure existing debt, but the agreement was that we'd pay it off after two years of premier league money and i'm glad the club are sticking to that agreement - you never know when you might need a helping hand from the banks for a new stand or who knows what, so its good to have them on side! as far as i'm concerned and i think most others feel the same way, all's good that ends good
