It will be a test for the Allams if that scenario does occur. They say they're not football people, so it'll be a test for them in finding a decent replacement. If Bruce does leave they'll have to get someone in who can lead us to safety, otherwise frustrations will spill over.
I just love the fact that some on here are so sure they know what SB will or will not do as in if he's asked he'll go ? Pardew is a dead man walking and how ironic that it's us up next for him ...if he stays that long. I note at least one newcastle blog says this story is bollocks and though SB has won over some Geordies take it from me there's plenty who do not rate him not simply because he managed the makems but because they think they can do better. I also think it's a bit unfair on SB to resurrect the stuff about him jumping ship at the first opportunity he's showed no signs of that in his last two jobs and I think the belief that AAs statement has tipped him into wanting to go is also wide of the mark. As I recall he was allegedly a shoe in for the Southampton job according to some papers but being a kind of Geordie it's inevitable he'll be linked to the job if it becomes available. As has been said he would not be able to build the team he wants and there's not likely to be a pot of gold come January and he would have no where near the control over any signings he has here. The newcastle job is a bit of a poisoned chalice who would want it ? Moyes has a better track record than Bruce and is immediately available and keen to prove himself again and has no makem baggage . He may go of course and if so it'll be a sad day he's been fantastic here and has assembled a squad that should keep us up this season but there's nothing inevitable about it.
I know it is Bruce's team and he has always wanted to be the manager there but I just don't see it happening. I just don't see it as being the right time for him to leave. - Newcastle are an entire shambles from top to bottom. - Mike Ashley is a terrible chairman and by all accounts, not a nice person either. - Is creating something special here from the bottom to the top. Currently doing the best work he has ever done in his managerial career. - Can't see him defecting at this point in the season to a shambolic system and dysfunctional squad. At a point in the season where he can do very little and inherits a bad situation from a great situation. - Has a great relationship here with the fans and the chairman. That said. If he did leave I would say Moyes or Laudrup could be definite contenders.
SB said only on Thursday if there's new owners his position at the club is under threat as new owners want new management , For that reason only SB may be tempted in restructuring Newcastle .
If he left here to go there he would be mental, it could potentially destroy the reputation he has rebuilt here. Just can't see it

How about this as a scenario.Steve Bruce has a successful year with Hull City. Van Gaal has a mediocre year with Utd. The board at Utd get rid of him before any contract turns into a big payout situation and Steve Bruce is thought of as a proven manager with success and with "Old School ties" to Utd. They approach Hull City and negotiations begin. Anyone's guess from there and we all know the likely outcome. No matter how much Steve Bruce thinks of Newcastle as his club of choice to manage because of his upbringing he is realistic enough to know that Newcastle may have history and stature as a name, alas it has no future in the present, and it's presence is from the past.
Utd are a club dropping their history. They are now going for a galactico culture and world cup bosses. No job for Brucie there. I think he'd take the Newcastle job though.
Why would SB leave a club that he has had basically nothing but success, and is backed more than ever by the owners than he ever has been in the past by previous owners of his other clubs. Can't see him leaving to join Newcastle where it is said that Ashley likes to have a big say on selection, and recruitment.
Exactly, well said. Speculative journalism without a single factual piece of evidence. You know the old adage: the purpose of science is to destroy "beautiful" theories with ugly facts. Unfortunately, we all tend to respond to these journalistic keyboard warriors with our own "beautiful" theories as to why Bruce will definitely stay or Bruce will definitely go. Until SB says something there are no facts.
Brucie has worked with Allam . . . . he can work with anyone . He has built a great legacy at City , but every manager knows their limits and he may just think he is near our . Coupled with Allam throwing a paddy (again) and SB himself calling his own tenure into doubt with a new owner . If he is offered his hometown club , im sure he would grab it with both hands , he would be mad not to .
A few thoughts occur to me 1. Ashley would be a nightmare to work for 2. Expectations with a **** squad, and no ability to change it for a while, are high, unreasonably high 3. He likes working with the Allams, despite what you may think about the current situation at the club, he's got an excellent working relationship with them, and he's the main football decision maker. 4. No one has ever ever said they've enjoyed working for Ashley 5. He's a Geordie. It's Newcastle. It's the dream (with a different owner) 6. Ashley is looking to offload Newcastle, and buy more of a stake in Rangers 7. If he went it would be fook all to do with the name change, in his world, that's a minor irritant. Maybe not even that, it seems to generate more singing, more support. No one is on his back at all. 8. We love Brucie. He's probably our best ever manager. The Geordies do not think of him in the same way. They'd expect a bigger manager, like Moyes. 9. Bruce is happy with his current contract. It's not about the money I believe, it's about building something his way, its about achieving something in football terms. He's doing that with us, Newcastle would destroy all of that. I can't help thinking that on balance, going there would be just daft for him. I can't see Shearer doing it either, not as number 2, not under Ashley. If they change owners then all bets are off, under Ashley I would be hugely surprised to see either of them sign up to manager the Mags.
answer this simple question given the chance , who would you chose to manage , Hull City or Bayern , Barca , Man Utd or AC Milan ? In fact , ask the question 15 years ago .
I think a lot on here are not appreciating your Point 8. In Newcastle Bruce is perceived as a mid-table manager at best. They have higher expectations than that. Much higher. They expect a proven top 4 manager with a solid European campaign pedigree. Most Mags are convinced that that is the least they deserve and should be there's by right. The funniest suggestion, by far, that I've heard was, said in all seriousness, albeit by an idiot, perhaps Hull would be interested in a manager swop!
Anyone thinking Bruce wouldnt go is just deluding themselves. He'd take the job even without the current furore at City and with Allam's mentalness this week it gives him the perfect excuse to walk as a hero. He would 100% take it. No doubt whatsoever.
I could be wrong but I think that if he cared that much about managing Newcastle, then he wouldn't have managed Sunderland. Just because he's a geordie it doesn't mean he's overwhelmed with nostalgia & desperate to prove himself there. Don't forget he's already turned it down once, under better conditions than there are currently at the club. On top of that, maybe he doesn't want to tarnish his feelings towards them.
He was just on Sportsweek on 5Live. They asked him about Allam / Namechange and he gave his standard answers about him being a man who doesn't change his mind, is a good man and not a foreign owner who doesn't understand the culture. He's concentrating on the football though. Asked about the NUFC link, he said he felt for Pardew or any manager under pressure but didn't want to talk about another man's job. He stated he was in the wilderness after Sunderland and Hull City gave him the chance to get back in the game and he'll always be grateful for that.. He said he' only been here a short time and wants to build the club. Usual caveats of 'that's football', 'ya never know' etc etc
