Err, you started this thread to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the first world war. You called it "Lest we forget" You are now insulting a good percentage of those who laid down their lives for the cause. Didn't take long for you to forget did it you f**king moron? #ERmegafail.
Driving home from Galway today lovely doc on Irish in WW1,the lads up North play the Unionist card yet us down South don't really discuss it and are embarrassed to have taken part even though men enlisted to fight for small nations!210,000 IRISHMEN joined up and I'm coming around to their sacrifice http://www.rte.ie/worldwar1/
Saw about 5 messages on facebook last night "I am sitting in te dark to remember the war dead". Yep - very respectful to be remembering them by using bloody Facebook
I've never met a vegetarian who doesn't eat meat because of animal cruelty. Most of them don't like the taste of meat and a couple have dietary concerns. You have to be a ****wit or a fatty to get so upset over food
I think ER's gesture for the 2% of Empire troops that were muslim is fantastic As a % of population (in this case, white population) the nation which suffered the highest percentage of fatalities was Rhodesia, fact fans. I also read the Paul Mason article today about how the war ended - fascinating stuff.
I think he turned to vegetarianism in the latter years of his life. Probably the smell of burning flesh put him off...
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory The old lie; Dulce et Decorum est Por patria mori. - Wilfred Owen
We did Wilfred Owen in secondary school English. Powerful and emotional poetry. Hitler was a confirmed veggie. He also had horrendous BO. Two go hand in hand.
