Whereas I appreciate being put back on an even keel finance wise, it would be nice to see a little ambition. There is a balance to be struck between financial prudence and a bit of ambition. Freddie was clearly a knacker but going to the other end of the scale is very drab and always a gamble.

I hope to hell we are gonna wise up on this cheap foreign talent policy soon.

 

The manager may not be great but no manager worth their salt will want to work under this set up. No half decent manager is going to want to have the transfer policy dictated to them, with no british spine to rely on. It just doesn't work. Unless you are Chelski/Citeh buying top class 15m-20m players every time

 

It seems they've done the finances. if each place gets you £1m in the league and with the squad vs other teams the top position we could get is going to be a 7th place finish. So £10m gain on 17th and safety.
Why spend cash when that's the margins? Even a "free" costs bumper wages, signing on and agents fees.
The two players we all know we need would cost more than the returns for getting higher in the league.
Then other players age and need replacing. Rinse - Repeat.
The money's in the Champions league knock outs, Spurs dropped £100m and might get to the group stage next year.
What would we need to spend?
I seriously think had we made the CL Ashley would have ****. Can you imagine Pardew asking him to spend money on players to play games we're not going to win?
