‘Swansea City legend Leon Britton has stepped down from his role as Sporting Director to sample some time out of a game that has dominated his life for the last 30 years. Britton, 37, was initially appointed as Advisor to the Board by the then new chairman Trevor Birch after announcing his retirement as a player in May 2018 with 536 appearances to his name over a 16-year period with the Swans. The former midfielder played a role alongside Alan Curtis supporting Birch in appointing Steve Cooper as head coach and Andy Scott as head of recruitment before being promoted to the club’s first Sporting Director in September 2019 as the club continued its rebuilding process following relegation from the Premier League.‘ Must admit that I’m surprised to learn of this!
Was he pushed or did he fall ? Yes surprised at this announcement , it seems the links between the new and old and slowing weakening which is not good especially considering our recent history and Leons part in it.
Sad times indeed.....but apart from being a link to some of the best years in our recent history what was he actually doing on the football side as Andy Ascot is supposed to be the new messiah for bringing great new talent to the club. He has said that he wants to spend time with his family. I would expect him to be around on match days though.
Hasn't been in the role 9 months and been in lockdown with his family for the past 3. Sounds to me like there's more reasons behind this decision.
Strange timing - so possible conspiracy theories include: 1)he might have jumped before he was pushed; or 2) there’s bad news coming and he wants out; or 3) he’s part of a consortium trying to take over; or 4) it’s as he says ....
Cost-cutting no doubt! so much bad politics at the club these days, you will have great difficulty getting to the truth of anything, ......................
