Highlight of the race was Verstappen whinning about his car and Horner repeating again and again you are safe Max you are not in any danger as if he was talking to a four year old
I mean... He's driving the car, he knows how it's feeling, so it he's worried about it vanishing in to the scenery on him at some point, I can't say I blame him for being concerned. Especially after Zhou's crash.
True but Horner was obviously more concerned about losing a couple of Championship points than losing his new number two driver
I thought it was his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase that was doing all the reassuring to Max over the radio?
It might have been I assumed it was Horner, it must have been a tad embarrassing for all the conversations to be heard by everyone worldwide
Sainz wasn't even keeping page with Hamilton, and anyone but the most anti-Hamilton antifan would acknowledge that the Ferrari was faster than the Merc, even though they've closed that gap. I'm delighted Carlos got a race win, but ironically it's a race he really didn't deserve to win on pure pace.
Re the crash, I thought about Grosjean in that fire. Few of us know what he dealt with in those few moments engulfed in the flames. I also remembered Alonso a few years back when he went into the netting at some speed. He quickly climbed out to reassure his Mum he was OK. I had a work colleague who was badly scarred when in a car crash and his car caught fire. He was OK talking about about it, everything seemed to slow down, as if in slow motion, enabling him to remember every detail. It must be the same, everything seeming to slow down, for the F1 drivers. The speed of thought warping time. Generally, that was a great race, Silverstone delivering where many tracks can't. I suspect Austria will be a damp squid by comparison. I agree Lewis was not on for the win, second possibly. Penalising Perez would have rewarded the wrong driver, i.e.Lewis, I think that was part of the decision not to penalise him.
Leclerc had an endplate missing Sainz got floor damage when he went off Verstappen got a huge piece of Alpha Tauri stuck under his car. Perez got a bad start and forced wide and got damage needed an early pit stop. Mercedes were lucky to be in the fight with all the wounded Animals in front.
Merc would be well and truly out of it if not for Ferrari and RBRs continuous stumbling. They're a way off, but not out of reach yet... Weird really
Just because it was Silverstone I though you might like to see this: Sorry for those who can't watch it - it's Seb driving his Williams that Nige drove!
We have 12 races to go plus a couple of sprints and maybe a Russian replacement. 10 had so far. It is a still a way to go but Redbull have the edge on the speed, provided they can avoid major reliability issues I would say this is their season. If reliability is not solid, then the season is open for the constructors. Max I think will be WDC.
Yeah... I'd say he pretty much has it in the bag... But who knows. Another dnf or two and it's back up for grabs. Assuming that Ferrari don't keep dropping a bollock.
Just fabulous, saw it too at the venue and sounded wonderful. Listening to it echo around the circuit when he was at Luffield and I was at the other side in Stowe, just pure magic. That chat with Nigel there too is just brilliant- he really made Nige proud there didn’t he- the big man even shed a tear he said! Fantastic stuff and also some on carbon neutral fuel too…..Dare we dream?!
Reconstruction of Zhou’s crash at Silverstone. Amazing and scary. The disintegration of the roll hoop structure was alarming.
Great reconstruction and wow did that roll hoop disappear at a rapid rate! It did seem to absorb the energy though. I think I read that it took 4 times the force that they are tested to!!! So looks like the tests are not representative of what lead they can actually be subjected to! Looks like 2023 cars will have to get even heavier!
The loss of the roll hoop is a bit scary. But the halo really helped out to prevent anything terrible happening. I have questioned the Halo in the past because I don't feel it's the best solution, but it has potentially saved lives. So I happily stand corrected.
It's ugly, but it works. We've got usd to it being part of the shape of the car now but if you look at the new cars and sort of pretend the halo isn't there they do look beautiful.
