Celtic manager Neil Lennon abuse allegations probed.

Neil Lennon says he was verbally abused as he watched a League Cup semi-final

Police have launched an investigation into allegations of abuse directed at Neil Lennon during a match between Aberdeen and St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Celtic manager said he was verbally abused and had a coin thrown at him as he watched the League Cup semi-final at Tynecastle stadium in Edinburgh.

The Football Coordinating Unit Scotland are investigating the allegations.

The stadium is the home ground of Hearts Football Club, which said it was looking at CCTV footage.

The story doing the rounds is that Lennon wasn't spat on at all.

Be interesting to see what the cctv footage reveals.

Lennon’s representative Martin Reilly said: “From the moment he took his seat, Neil was spat on, verbally abused, had coins thrown at him and eventually he had to leave.

Police yesterday said they had received no complaint from Celtic or Hearts but would fully investigate if such a complaint was made.

The first incident happened while Lennon was sitting at the back of the directors’ box in the main stand during the game – next to where the Aberdeen fans were massed.

After coins were thrown at him, Lennon was moved by stewards to another part of the directors’ box nearer the pitch.

Shortly after, a plastic bottle containing a liquid was thrown at him but again missed and bounced into the press box.

Here's hoping Martin's got his facts right and that pesky cctv footage doesn't make him out a liar.
