What a win. Great result. Great resolve. Watching their goal it looks like the ball moves late on Begovic and he has to adjust his hands. I'm sure he'll be disappointed with it but these new balls move a lot.
We won with 26% of the ball ...........wow. Two shots on target ........... two goals, three shots in total, wow. They had 23 shots!
Have just watched the highlights and am amazed at our high quality goals. I admit, I did not expect a point, yet alone an away win, against the top team in the league. It just shows the potential in the team and let’s hope that we stayed focused for the next games. Once we finally survive this season, then we may be able to start to dream about next season. Well done the R’s!
Definitely misleading in this case, 23 shots but I can't recall any save Begovic made apart from the one leading to their goal. We defended like absolute bastards.
Must help having Dunne and Dykes in there over Cannon and Armstrong. Field over Colback too defensively. Six big ****s outfield and three midgets with Anderson being chatted up again by the locals in Leicester Wetherspoons.
Field had a good game, Dunne has been something of a revelation in the last 3 games. I'd go as far as saying Paal is currently the weak link in our defence, I'd be tempted to play Fox at LB.
I'm hoping the quality of our goals is a key point. Both Huddersfield and Stoke's goals were goalie errors, especially Stoke's! Also came across the interview with Marti after his first game which was a draw away to Rotherham. The interviewer said he must have been happy to stop the losing streak. MC, with puzzled and slightly irritated look at what he considered a foolish question, said he was not at all happy with the draw because he always expected to win! Just keep doing what we're doing and we might just be OK! What a crying shame we never had MC at the start of this season.
Didn’t go yesterday but Paal has been better recently defensively. Thought he was overrated because others were even worse earlier in the season. Fox would be another big bastard but Paal has a bit more licence to get forwards with Dunne and proper defensive midfielders in there.
Paals crossing is woeful, to the point it would be more beneficial if he didn't bother trying to put the ball in. He has the energy and pace to play down that left hand side and he's made it his own to be fair. I have to give credit to Anderson, he seemed to be everywhere in that first half doing the jobs that he probably wasn't brought in to do. Someone mentioned the Burnley game last season in comparison, these 2 games were a million miles apart. Burnley was just defend and hope for the best, this game yesterday was a very well executed plan with the use of the correct players at the correct times. Sometimes it was nervous, tedious and quite boring to watch but it succeeded and that's the main thing. Our best player at holding the ball up for support was Willock. He was a bit of an unseen hero, similar to Anderson in this respect.
Dunne has really put in the effort now Marti has given him the opportunity - just what you want to see. Ideal for us to be able to bring Dykes into this game, we needed his work rate and his defensive support to the team for this match up. From the bits I watched I loved our work rate and how well organised we seemed to be at the back, especially when we had Fox on and had a line of five across the back line. As Bob mentions above it’s great to see Willock coming back - I’ve been a fierce critic along with many - he deserves credit during the last three games for his work. Nice to see us working as a ‘team’ again. Tough game against Albion on Wednesday, we’ll need it all over again Wednesday and Saturday.
Yeah and for what it’s worth he’s meant to be a really good bloke which can’t hurt for the team spirit. A poor man’s Clint Hill. Mostly he’s just not Cannon who is ****e going back and forwards.
If you extrapolate his 30 points from 21 games over the season so far we’d be on 50 and that’s with him inheriting a squad playing drek football and low on confidence. Tragic really we didn’t bin Ainsworth in the summer or at least a month earlier than we did.
Still buzzing from the game. Very misleading stats. The possession was exactly what the Leicester fans are moaning about, and why the stadium was as quiet as a library except for the Rs fans. No purpose, resulting in hopeful shots from outside the box. Note that we successfully defended 9 corners, credit to whoever has been working on that. We did concede from a free kick rebound, but it didn’t seem like the error ridden bollocks of previous set piece cock ups. The defence was really well set up, and when we did finally get the ball we used it well, were always a threat even though we had few shots. My Leicester mates were really pissed off with their result at Leeds where they dominated and threw it away in the last ten minutes. They had no complaints about yesterday.
Time for me to admit that my doubts about Cifuentes were unfounded. He's really got the team well organised now and recent performances have been much better - 17 points from 8 games is terrific form. Still hard to get over the debacle at Stoke though, which was as bad as anything under Ainsworth. Those poor performances (Wednesday away, Millwall away) are the exception now though and I'm now confident that we will stay up. Willock's return to form is a massive plus, Cooke and Clarke-Salter are an extremely solid CB pairing, and Dunne has been a revelation at right back. Keep it up, Marti.
