I don’t disagree that the fans have played their part Fats, that isn’t the point I was making. And however bad some fans have been, it wasn’t all of them. Dell1964 has consistently blamed just about everyone apart from the board for where we are in the league and the fans get more than their share. The support the fans give is to a large extent down to the effort the players put it, and if the players, for whatever reason, aren’t putting in a shift, the amount of encouragement will diminish. I haven’t been to many games either this season but the atmosphere against Chelsea was brilliant, except for about 20 minutes in the middle of the second half, when the level dropped off. Towards the end it picked up again as the players were trying to equalise.

The two are intertwined, but it has to come from the pitch as well as the crowd.

 

I have a ticket for the Bournemouth game....bought in the euphoria of a change of manager and the semi-final win, but my going depended in part on us beating Leicester. Can I bring a duvet to St Marys?

 

And as anyone who doesn’t work for them would agree, the board are far more culpable than anyone else in this failure.

 

The board, manager and players all share culpability, though I do feel the players could have put in more of a shift than they have. Fans respond to what they see, so not excusing booing but the atmosphere would have been considerably better if the entertainment levels had been higher. Whilst I accept that we are probably where we deserve to be for all these reasons, I have to point out that we haven't had an ounce of luck either. The odd lucky break and helpful official could have given the team the lift we needed at some point of the season. No, I don't truly believe in luck in the superstitious sense, but I can recognise the absence of positive chance....and we've had none of it.

 

Before anyone says you make your own luck...absolutely true if you head the table or win the league, but when you just need the odd few points to lift you from the company of other poor sides, a touch of good fortune becomes very useful.

 

Mmm, do you mean that same board that has got the club into Europe, a major Wembley final and are there again the following season (albeit a semi-final)...... no pleasing some people.

At Wembley today (one hopes) all factions in the Saints crowd will just be 100% committed to cheering the team on.......... however they perform and whatever the result

 

Yes. That one. The one that despite all the glaringly obvious pointers, have over the past two seasons manouvered us into the ridiculous position we’re in now, due to their incompetence and greed. It’s comical you can’t even admit how utterly hopeless they’ve been this season.
