He certanly WAS NOT [our best player] this (part) season....... he was a fraud, trying to gain some match fitness at the expense of his colleagues!

I really don’t understand your post at all. You start by asking me for evidence on fear and then finish by agreeing with my last note about money and stress.

I genuinely don’t get if you’re agreeing with me or questioning me, sorry :(

    <laugh> whoops!

I think I was answering your question "Urgency or Fear?" and then I was offering evidence that it was Fear, not asking you for it

Then responding to your saying "how can you be stressed on 50k a week?"
i.e. 50k makes you rich which removes any financial stress but doesn't affect stress on the pitch

    Any clearer? o_O

No, he's the reason we are where we are. Well, him and those pesky home fans.

Lets ignore the fact that after Virgil's last game for us, we were sitting 11th with a GD of -6. And are now 18th with a GD of -20.

Lets also ignore the fact that, despite claims by some that this run of away games could be good for us, we've duly recorded three defeats and one draw, conceding nine times and scoring just twice. We scored just as many in our only home game during that run.

Virgil and the home fans can never be forgiven.

Ah ok. I get it now, you also see fear. Good.

By the way, I didn’t ask how you can be stressed on 50k a week, I said I was waiting for someone to ask that because so many people make that daft type of comment.

I like a lot of your posts Brendy, but then you throw in one of these lines sarcastically mentioning the fans.

Our fans have not been good for two seasons now in terms of getting on players backs and not getting behind the team. I find it odd that someone who comes across as intelligent as you do, appears to refuse to accept that the fans may have contributed (not the blame, as I don’t think anyone has said that ever), then continually throws it out there as if people like me have used it as a fact.

Our fans haven't been great. That's hardly unique in 2018 football by the way, but it doesn't make it an excuse. I have a degree of sympathy, because if things weren't so bad in the coaching dugout and in the transfer market, they'd hopefully be more on the pitch for fans to get their teeth into. But nonetheless, it hasn't been great. I'm not sitting here saying it's all rosy. I was actually shouting at the negative noise being thrown out there on Saturday, when McCarthy was slow distributing the ball. That's not going to help any of our players!!

The issue I raised in my previous was about the comments that we're better off playing away. Sorry, I absolutely cannot agree. I don't care what the home fans are like, give me playing at home over playing away. Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Our home form might be awful, but our away form is even worse. At least at home, it is often the case that the opposition won't go hard at our weak defence. I could never accept those comments a month or so ago that it would be better for us having all these away games. Unsupportive home fans or not.

On VVD, anyone expecting us to be able to do what we did at The Etihad, couldn’t have witnessed his display that night.

Fair enough. I was one that thought we could have been better away from home. I was wrong.

Maybe it’s because some people on here always mention the fans with a negative tone <laugh> Seriously tho, I think if you want to generalise about any teams fan base, when things are going wrong they/we all are crap.

I don’t really care about other team’s supporters though and just because “all teams are like that” it doesn’t make it right, nor does it make me accept it anymore.

That's the trouble with these forums
All these people spouting reasonable opinions and agreeing with each other from the safety of their own homes

Interesting interview with Sean Dyche the other night which said that Burnley Fans were still positive the year they went down and of course they came back up again

"Expectation low, achievement higher, result happiness. Expectation high, achievement lower, result misery."

So how will they be next year?

    Then why say Palace?
Is it right? Probably not but there’s a lot of sides to the discussion & very subjective.
You don’t accept - sure, totally your call.

SiS: Hi Mark - sorry I didn't get in touch yesterday. Celebrated your first point a bit hard. (Tia Maria was a bad choice!)

Mark: don't worry SiS, had a few myself (but Tia Maria? what were you thinking?)

SiS: not much by midnight Mark! Still onwards and upwards! Got the team sorted for Sunday?

Mark: you know me SiS, been hard at it. Got at least one big surprise lined up!

SiS: The forums right behind all out attack. Reckon we'll win 10-9!

Mark: yes I've read a few of those comments, what a bunch of plonkers! we'd be annihilated 10-0!

SiS: I know, I have to read their meanderings every week! So, defensive then? but surely not 3 centre backs again? You know my opinion of centre backs!

Mark: Yes I do SiS, you're the biggest plonker of them all!!! AND DON'T CALL ME SURELY!

SiS: sorry mate. So what's the big surprise then?

    Mark: 4 centre backs!

    SiS: good grief

SiS: um .... but we've only got 3 (Florin's out on loan and Stephens is banned)

Mark: I'm bringing Will Woods in from the U21s

SiS: good call, didn't think of that! So what's the game plan then?

    Mark: penalties!

SiS: I'll get another bottle of Tia Maria! Speak again on Tuesday.

    Mark: cheers SiS!

Palace was awful this season, as was Stoke.
