Here's the law copied word for word, note the bit in bold: Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration: • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement
The second half handball was an obvious penalty very poor decision. Leicester looked very solid overall though. I wanted us to beat them all day long but now the game is over go and win it Leicester
We all know we never get 50 - 50 calls in our favour though. In fact we sometimes don't get ones with even better odds.
I know, I get it, hell I have some pretty unpopular opinions sometimes, but there's 23 people on the pitch and the decisions are just one part of the game (as we keep banging on about every Saturday). Anyway, the sole reason for not winning today was of course Mane's miss. Arrrrrrrrrghghhhhghhhhhhhh....................
Then it's surely the manager's fault, as he is the one who picks Pelle and builds the game around him. To me it was tragicomic to watch as we put cross after cross after cross to the Liecester box, while Huth and Morgan were just clearing those crosses time and time again
Six games to go and four points off top 6. To stand a chance we probably can't afford to lose again this season and I can't see that happening
I like the fact that the rules anticipate the possibility of a player using their shinguard as a cricket bat.
I agree we were too one dimensional, but I think that has more to do with our lack of creative/attacking play. I still think Bertrand is not fully fit. He used to be so good at getting past his man and then playing those dangerous cutback passes. Now he gets cutoff from the byline and has to settle for the long cross. Haven't seen that Tadic-Bertrand interplay we had from last season. Cedric similarly didn't do much on the right today. And his crosses were crap as an added bonus. Other than Mane, we don't have a player that can turn nothing into something. And I'm not knocking Long, but I think this is a game where he wouldn't have helped. He wasn't going to be able to run past their defense as they kept players behind the ball. Long's major strength is his movement, but to take advantage of that, it requires a more open game. I think he would have just been marooned in the same manner Pelle and Austin were.
Nope. How can you call that deliberate handball? His arm was tucked into his chest. Not even a debatable call.
Apart from nearly every ref reads it differently. That is why so many complain about reffing decisions. You can go on saying "but it's the rules" to you are blue in the face. But that doesn't change the fact another ref would have given a penalty and maybe even a red card. Until refs are more consistent with the rules you will always get people questioning decisions.
If his arm was in front of his body it would not have been hand ball. As it was way out to the side making the amount of ground he covers extremely wide then yes it is handball. If Simpson's arm is out to the side rather than tucked in and that's what the ball hits is it a penalty? Does not necessarily mean an infringement - this doesn't mean it should not be taken into account every time.
I see you are on your weekly crusade to protect the refs Tom.........admit it....the ref got it wrong.
