I usually feel confident before games, but I think our transfer failings (yes we look to have a good player in Falque, but the Lee story has really dragged and we seem to have missed out on other targets) plus one or two key injuries and the loss of top spot mean we are in danger of losing momentum at just the wrong time. Add theSky curse and it does not bode well. With Cardiff going well we are under pressure and need the win, but it looks like a 1-1 to me.
Why do people keep going on about this?!?! We've beaten MK Dons, Charlton, Leeds, and drew with Reading, Blackpool, Pompey (BBC) recently. In fact it could be considered the 'Sky Blessing' as we haven't lost on TV this year. People need to stop looking for an easy excuse.
We've got 3 central midfielders out, two strikers out, a centre back (our best player) out and a right back out. We really are down to the bare bones.
If Lallana is out, I wonder whether we'll see the dreaded diamond, with Falque playing in the attacking mid role.
Saints haven't lost at home to Leicester in 22 games which is hopefully a good sign. Leicester have scored in their last ten games though so could be dangerous. I'm hoping for an early breakthrough with a Morgan special! COYR!
I'm actually surprised. Although I've only quickly scanned the thread, I can't find any entry from a Saints fan which reads... I have a bad feeling about this match..! 3-1 Saints. Nah bollix, why should I predict one goal against. 3-0.
I get sports information from Keith Elliot and he worryingly tips both teams to score as the bet tonight at just under even money. We had better hope if he's right so is FLT and we score 2 or 3!
Apparently Guly is out? We're absolutely bollocked if he is (he came off with a hamstring injury against Forest so I think there may be some truth in this) as that would leave Connolly as our only fit striker - and we all know that his medical history isn't exactly glistening. That'd mean Lambert, Lallana, Guly, Chaplow and Fonte are all out - arguably our 5 best players. So Leicester saying they're down to the bare bones is able - at least the players you have out aren't exactly key ones either, Bamba aside.
Hoskins got injured against Birmingham too. Falque up top maybe? The Spurs fans were saying he could play the Van Der Vaart role.
These injuries are starting to take the piss, I predict a draw tonight and hope that the sky cameras dont affect the atmosphere in the ground. 27-30k could be a tad ambitious.
My bad feeling stems from the fact that whenever I've had a bad feeling this season, we've won! When I've not been worried at all, we've lost! And I haven't been worried at all about this one - until I realised my lack of worry probably bodes badly! Or does that now mean I revert back to the beginning of the cycle, where I'm now worrying, which bodes well? My compass has gone crazy! Two things that concern me: 1. Schmeichel - he's their key man, as far as I'm concerned. Without him in goal last time, we would have won. We can play as well as we like, and he can still keep us out. 2. The stats - it seems like every team we've played who've got key men out (Brighton), or on a losing streak or bottom of the table (Doncaster, Bristol City) have managed to turn it round against us. It's like a rallying call to the troops, which coupled with the chip on shoulders of wanting to knock a team off the top of the table, seems to raise their game. Granted, only Bristol City managed to do it at SMS, but that one defeat is likely deeply symbolic for all teams who come here now - we can be beaten on our home turf. I'm not a doom monger at all, I just really want that top spot back, and a draw isn't good enough, so there are now two outcomes out of three that will see us as chasers now, with a tough match to follow.
This might have been discussed in another thread, apologies if so. But, those going to the match tonight - what are you going to fill the gaps with where we'd usually be singing "We're top of the league...?" "Second top of the league/Second top of the league/We are Southampton/Second top of the league" doesn't have the same ring. Maybe we'll score early and you can hammer it until the equaliser.
True. I did actually mean to include imo after that line. In a similar (but reversed) vein of thought, I'm here thinking Delfouneso is going to be brilliant for you tonight, and just the fresh signing that wil keep you going. Whereas with Falque, I'm just thinking new signing, won't gel yet with the others, might be a bit rusty. Hope I'm completely wrong.
