Perhaps he might have but I'm not sure he'd have come for the crosses as well as Alex did on many occasions.
Losing to top teams isn't always so bad. It shows where we are and what we need to do to improve so we can make the next step up. We are not that far off especially with a weakened team that played tonight
Jeeze, just reading some more of the Facebook comments. We’re seventh but relegation standard, apparently.
Looking at the Ralph interview and he looked surprised when it was mentioned that Bertrand is on a ban
Real shame, because I would say that it was comfortably his best game for us. It's the position up for grabs even when we don't have an injury crisis - neither Redmond nor Djenepo have nailed it down. Obviously today was just one game, but who knows where it could have lead to (and still might). As I said before, we desperately need to bring in a body or two. This month certainly, but ideally this week if possible.
Agreed. He had a decent game. We were beaten by a great goal from Maddison. We had 3 cracking shots on goal which would have gone in any other day. No companies about the effort today. Not a criticism, just a point of note - if Walcott's first touch could be improved a bit he would be absolutely unstoppable in front of goal
Close your eyes because I am going to criticise the captain, in this post. I have said before that he needs to be looking to make more forward passes than he does and tonight I got “a little bit cross” when we had a short spell with Leicester struggling to clear their lines. When the ball fell towards JWP, his first reaction as he approached the ball was to look towards our defence, TWICE, before looking for any forward passing options. He’s 10 yards outside their box, on the right hand side and, IMO, his first thought should be to swing the ball into the danger zone, not look for a pass backwards when the full back is already ahead of him. He is such an improved player, who can put a dead ball on a sixpence, yet shies away from hitting long Beckhamesque passes from deep. I get that Ralph wants to play keep ball, but he also wants players to take risks and I would like to see JWP do that, from time to time. Especially when we can see the strikers making the runs. Moan over.
Great ball forward to Bertie for the shot though. But yes, I see what you’re saying. Maybe without Orio he feels he needs to be a little less risky??
That ball to Bertrand just emphasises the fact that he can play them. I think he hit a similar pass, on the right, against Liverpool, playing someone in behind. It’s just a bit of a bugbear with me, but looking on the bright side, if he did start pinging those passes all over the pitch, he might attract attention from “a bigger club”. Wouldn’t want that to happen.
