We may or may not have wanted Billy Sharp. He's probably going to Leicester. There are plenty more fish in the sea (if you pardon the expression).
He could have come to us for £15k, and a clause of a pay hike if we get a top two spot. Win all round for all parties. Though bet Leicester do the double on us now, with Sharp hitting the winner.
I agree, and tend to think that he just ruled out a move too far away from friends and family, who he'll (and his wife) be in need of for the foreseeable. I'd like Jordan Rhodes, but he's getting Premiership interest from the likes of Spurs, so not getting my hopes up.
Your owners know F**k all about football,they just spend money on average players that play average football then if things aren't going well they sack the manager.Yes you spend,spend,spend to get to the premiership but there is no back up plan.I don't know what your owners plans are for the long term but I think they just want to get you up into the premier league then sell you off. Have just moved up here near Doncaster and have spoken to a few Donny fans and all said the same. Sharp is a good player but suffers with his weight and take the money for him readily as don't think he is worth 3 million. Nor do I and don't think he is premier quality either so personally I'm happy he is not going to saints. Am still a little worried we don't seem to attract top signings hope this window proves me wrong but am worried cortese,s strick regime could detract top players signing ,am sure there are plenty of you will say good we don't want that sort but ask yourself this. Most top players tend to be arrogant and cock sure of them selves ,,think this part of the makeup of the better players as you need a lot of self confidence to succeed to the top.
I like the fact we seem unwilling to pay ludcirous wages to new signings. Those who have been at the club for a while and have proved themselves to be our best players should receive the highest wage, and getting in some 30 or 40 grand a week superstar would surely make a lot of our players want big pay rises. With the imminent ffp rules coming in, we should start following them now.

Does no-one stop to think that he has already suggested he would like to stay closer to his family in the North? So unless York City, Hull City or Sheffield Wednesday are going to put a bid in then Leicester isn't that bad an option. If we had offered 28k a week then of course you would be saying it eas because it was the best option for him and wouldn't have been saying 'he has gone for the money' Give the guy a break. Good post. Sharp apparently turned us down before because of moving so far from family and friends. It seems its not just about money. As for rumours of premiership club interest; that's the press for you. These comments on who has the most ambition is subjective and there is no measure as to who has the greater ambition. Finally, a careful review of the press suggets that the Foxes has triggered his £1.85M release clause; I don't know where the weekly salary figures come from; because no final deal seems to have been done - yet. As for the comments made by Foxes fans on here - the abuse delivered back seemed totally out of proportion to the comments they made.
No need to get involved with Leicester. Yes, they are in competition for players money wise (if we are interested) but they are not really our rivals last time I looked at the table.
Completely agree. It was only one, small comment made - and I certainly didn't take any offence against it. Reading some of the replies from our fans was just embarrassing. As for Sharp, I'm not going to blame him if he goes to Leicester. Regardless of what plans their owners might or might not have, it's quite clear that they want Premiership football - so there's your ambition. Add in the decent wage and the location, and I'd have absoloutely no problem with him going to Leicester (save for the disappointment of us missing out on him - and even that wont be around for long if Lee, or someone else, turns out to be a little diamond for us)
