You appear to have a completely unyielding, black and white view of the situation. Most people, including yourself I venture, would say that whilst the general principle of 'letting (sic) the people sing' is fine, that does not mean anything, anywhere, anytime. It might be, by the narrowest of definitions, hypocritical (not sure I'd agree it was 'stupid'), but if so, then I'd say we're hypocrites for the right reasons.

As for the specifics of the lyrics of LTPS - it's true I didn't know the lyrics had been changed, but don't really think that has any bearing on my point. Incidentally, reading the two versions, I don't really see any necessity for the change either. Singing about Cromwellian atrocities in Ireland at the football in Scotland is akin to singing about sending 'proud Edward's armies' out of Scotland at a football match in Ireland I suppose - imo a bit silly, but hardly offensive. Whereas singing about the IRA is highly controversial (at best). Whether you think it's wilfully ignorant or otherwise, a large proportion of people in the UK do not distinguish between any of the versions of the IRA (original 1916 version through to the current day factions - continuity, real etc etc). I don't think BOTOB is offensive personally and I'm aware it's not about the terrorist version of the 70s/80s but I'm perfectly content to be 'hypocritical' and say for the good of the club, it'd be better if the people didn't sing that particularly song of their native land at the match.
