In my opinion we should because it would offer more competition to Patrice Evra, i know Fabio can play there and Ezekeiel Fryers but that's only 3 players that can play there, i'm sure the manager is looking at signing one maybe a shock signing. Do you think we should sign a left-back this summer ?
Didn't he say that he was considering moving after the World Cup and SAF had to persuade him to stay? He hasn't been himself over the last few seasons but you got to remember, he's probably (I don't know the exact stats!) played the most games out of anyone in the squad in the last 5 years. So being burnt out is a possible reason why he hasn't been great defensively or attacking like we know he can be. A few seasons ago, we'd laugh at when people called Ashley Cole the best full back in the world - have you forgot our Mad Pat!? Do we think Fabio could become the first choice left back? Hmmmm... I personally don't like having a right footed player at left back and I know people will say what about Phillip Lahm, so given a few years I think Fabio will develop into a two footed players, no doubt that his training must concentrate on the ability to use his left foot as well. We have Fryers but is he a full back or centre back? I know he is technically a left back and considering the competition we have at centre back, I think it'd be wise if he develops into a full back- another question is will he stay at the club- will he sign a new contract?
Your right about being the most played player in our team, i think he's played like 70 games in 5 years i could be wrong.
Evra doesn't seem as mobile as he once was, still very good going forward but not as quick to get back, and often looks tired when he does finally get back. I think Fergie has to be scouting some replacements, Fabio is too injury prone to get a long run in the team to see if he could step his game up and Fryers is naturally a central defender although he is comfortable on the left. Someone like Cissokho would be a good replacement in my opinion, or maybe even Digne if he was looking for someone younger.
He's and 18 year old attacking full back that plays for Lille and he really does look like a very good prospect, he's quick and pretty big for a full back, but at that age he would be more of a risk than someone like Cissokho.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Dennis Irwin was a right footed left back? The only thing holding Fabio back is being injured more often then not.
I'm guessing the likes of Evra, Rio, Rooney and Vidic have all averaged around 40-45 games a season for the time Vidic and Evra have been at the club (since 2006, they were signed in the Jan transfer window of 05). And I can't think of any serious injuries that Evra has had and he does play probably the most demanding position on the football pitch in the most demanding way possible.
Denis Irwin was the bollox. Evra has been a good player but in a United PL XI there would only ever be one pick.
My point was more of "just because he's right rooted doesn't mean he can't play left back" the da Silvas aren't the finished products yet, but there has been vast improvements in their defensive play in the last year or two, but I think their injuries will limit their development. Midway through last season Rafael was arguably the best RB in the league until he got injured and the Fabio picked up right where Rafael left off. The potential is cleary there for both of them. It's really about wether or not they can stay fit long off enough to reach it.
Blimey, blast from the past. Daffy Matth was that headcase's first incarnation. But yeah, ooof indeed. They don't make them like Denis much anymore.
