Correct. We are safe. Great days work. Would we have won if Warnock was still here? Answer no

Diouf completely changed the game today, and the substitutions in general energised us and gave us fresh impetus. Warnock would've dawdled with the substitutions. Do we finally have a manager with the bottle to make a change when we need it?

Warnock certainly wouldn't have brought Morison off, he'd have stubbornly stuck to his guns that Morison is going to be a legend, despite being an absolute useless carthorse worse than Paynter. At least Paynter tried to not be ****!

Definitely wouldn't have tried Varney up front instead of on the wing.

Varney is ridiculously good in the air. Morison tends not to bother winning headers. Also Varney runs the channels well. Still not entirely convinced by him but he looks a hell of a lot better as a central forward than a winger.

And McDermott will probably play him there. Keep in mind that Redfearn will have picked the team for today and McDermott will have made changes based on what he saw in the first half. Redfearn will have stuck with whatever Warnock was doing as it was the "safe" option.

We saw it earlier in the season though, Varney looks deadly as a centre forward. Warnock is just clueless and stubborn.

A 4-2-3-1 with a mobile centre forward and 3 creative attacking midfielders would be excellent. Diouf and McCormack would excel in that role, and if we sign a couple of quick wingers and a genuine playmaker we'd start looking a threat again. We have enough central midfielders who can sit deep as it is, we just need a bit of attacking impetus.

Why sign a creative playmaker? Why can't Chris Dawson play that role? Looks creative to me and looks more than capable.

Completely agree and I hope he gets given a go in the next few games. But young players inevitably have a slight dip in form at some point in the season, so it'd be nice to have someone else who can step in occasionally

I was elsewhere today & have therefore only seen the goals, but a Varney/Ross front two suddenly looks very impressive. Morison must be worried, especally as Somma is waiting in the wings. All in all, a good day.

Team for Tuesday must have Ross & Varney up front with Diouff by the sound of things playing behind them in midfield.

I'd be worried if I were Morison. At the end of the day, we've basically given away Becchio for nothing. Great work Warnock.

Think Morison was sent a very clear message with the substitution. Hope he pays attention & starts playing the next chance he gets. IF he gets another chance.

As Varney's biggest critic, I have to congratulate him on his goals. Perhaps he's now playing where he should always have been playing? Perhaps. We shall see. One swallow doth not a summer make!

Couldn't make the match today had to work.

Was McDermott in the dugout today or did Redfearn take charge? Glad to see Varney on the score sheet I know he's a bit of a boo boy but I think he does try.

Great win today hopefully that's the end of the relegation worries??

Anyone got any ideas who McDermott might sign for next season? I know it's a bit early to ask that question but I'm hoping the defence gets sorted out!! I'm not bothered what type of football we play under him just so long as we can get a good run going

His work rate was never in question, he's just ****.

But just as he did against Southampton, sounds like he was much better as a centre forward

Really don't think our defence is that bad, our problem is we never keep the ball so we invite so much pressure onto ourselves. We do need another CB though, preferably a leader with some Championship experience. Maybe an attacking playmaker, a few wingers and a striker. Other than that, we have a promising group of youngsters coming through that we should be looking at integrating into the first team squad. Really can't see us signing a huge amount of players. 4-5 in, a couple out (the ones we can get rid of) and then using the youth team.

One swallow certainly doesn't make a summer Jock, but balls from McCormack to Varney shows the way forward. Roll on Burnley on Tuesday. Should now be a very interesting game.

Where exactly did Diouf play when he came on?

Don't think there will be more coming in than going out. Despite the scepticism, it really is quite a large squad already. It's just full of injured has-beens and superannuated never-will-bes. :bandit:

Yeah I'd like to think there would be more going out, but I think we could struggle offloading the likes of Pugh/Norris/Brown/Hall/Morison <yikes>
