Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

Was out in Latchi harbour with Jan and the boys having dinner last night so wasn't following the game (although Ben did keep us updated until half time from his 'phone). Came back and had a few beers by the pool so decided to leave checking in until this morning.

A few things. As the old saying goes, you can only beat what is in front of you and, as we well know many sides fail in cups against teams from lower divisions. However, have watched some highlights and we looked superb at times.

Secondly, it was a joy to read this whole thread  and this is meant in the right way, loved seeing LL find a new hero - suspect we might end up agreeing on this one :emoticon-0148-yes:

WJ, as ever, reading your match report is about the next best thing to actually being there. Great read, thorough as ever - you could have been a journalist :emoticon-0148-yes:

Finally, and LL won't agree with me here <laugh> from what I have seen and read, I am relishing seeing Wood (if he is still here) link up with Alioski and Saiz. Yes he got 30 odd goals in a one dimensional team set up to play to him but I think he brings a lot more to the team. He works incredibly hard for the team as a lone striker and makes it difficult for defenders to clear their lines properly causing the second ball to land in dangerous areas. He may not get as many as he did last year but it will be real fun watching the new boys pick those loose balls up - we could cause havoc a few times this year :emoticon-0148-yes:

Let's hope GBs predictions from yesterday are correct - would be awesome to get off to a flyer for a change :emoticon-0167-beer:
Great point and can I add one further point. Imagine the problems opposing teams will have defending against an attacking threat of Woods, Alioski and Saiz. They won’t be so inclined to be piling forward against us

Hadn't even thought of it that way but, if those three gel you are spot on :emoticon-0148-yes:

Watched the game (finally...) and managed to not spoil it by seeing the score.

Haven't read back through comments either but thought I might just quickly say a couple things.

Saiz, obviously is the main topic of conversation after that debut. He's surely put himself into the starting eleven over Hernandez (with Hernandez perhaps being a wonderful impact sub on the weekend). Everything about that performance was 10/10.

I also thought Dallas has put himself into contention, would probably keep Roofe in there for now but he's gotta be 3rd choice winger behind Alioski and Roofe.

Klich seemed poor to me, Sacko was horrendous and I didn't like Ayling at CB (which I never seemed to have). We seemed to panic somewhat from long balls into the box again. Shaugnessy looked comfortable mostly, especially with ball at feet and I do believe he could become a good CB but he hesitated a couple times in tackles which I was disappointed by. Otherwise he played well.

Anita was ok, got beat a couple times though, didn't get forward too much. CBJ was decent, got forward well but at times his final delivery was poor.

Vieira linked well at times, although didn't feel completely comfortable till Bridcutt was there. Which brings me onto Bridcutt, he was superb when he came on. Was really impressed and with a couple more cameos like that he'll play himself into the team.

I absolutely loved our 3rd and fourth goals. The linking between Alioksi and Saiz was breathtaking. Particularly the 4th where Alioksi run the length of the pitch played it across and saiz played a dummy to Ekuban. Brilliant.

Ekuban needs more game time, but his control seemed poor. Needs to build more confidence but he ain't getting into the team above Wood who his so much better in that role.

Agree with a lot of what you say, Josh. You & I seem to be in a minority re. Klich. I believe he will come good, but I've yet to see it. At least not consistently.

Klich hasn't had a preseason due to injury so probably a bit behind the others. Als will need to get used to the physicality of English football.

Can't agree more, but that's not the point I was trying to make. Most people have assessed his performance & rated it in the range of good to excellent. I, on the other the other hand, haven't seen anything to write home about. Which made me wonder about my assessment skills. So I was delighted that Josh was as nonplussed as me.

The reasons you've given for his flat performances are known to me, and I still have a lot of hope for this chap. The worrying this for me is personal - I just don't seem to be able to see what the majority are seeing. :D

Klich I haven't seen it yet either. But guys not had a fair crack yet has he

When comparing Bridcutt presumably it's with Phillips and O'Kane, just remember opposition were L2 so don't go overboard. I have no axe to grind here, was not in the past impressed by Phillips tbh, happy just to see who emerges as the best options

I hope we stay in all cup competitions a long time and give chance for all these players to show what they can do. Ekuban I like look of, he also back heeled to Sais for his third as well as his own goal

Spot on. I'm really happy to go with TC's flow, especially the contentious DM spots. He deffo seems to have his eye in, so I guess it's unreasonable to criticise anyone that's picked. Just to be clear - I've not got a downer on Klick, I'm just waiting to be impressed, and fully expect to be. Just a matter of time.

See the FA are investigating the alleged Saiz spitting allegation. It is us so I presume guilty till proved innocent.
