The pass that Thiago plays into Matip for the first goal - it wasn't special or ground breaking but I'm sure if it was Gini or Hendo, they would have played it back to VVD. And this is what I love about Thiago - has the vision and plays the right pass to get us up the pitch.
he’s quality - I just wish he had a yard more pace when out of possession but he makes the midfield tick
One thing can kinda got lost in the whole game was Fabinho's goal - was a special moment for him given he recently lost his father.
the quote says To get a dislocation it means you have disrupted several bits, he has either broken the bones on both sides or broken the bone on one side and torn the major ligaments on the inside,' said Mr Hennessey. 'Either way it is a major injury.' so that sounds bad to me.
Strangely the comment from the battle of the clogger togger teams game last night, made by the the co commentator was that it was not okay to go through the back of a player even if you get something on the ball which I thought was interesting. Seems many are trying to protect the player - there was zero malice but he still went in from behind and we all saw the outcome. As I said somewhere above I don’t think the current rules actually cover what happened on Sunday or the son incident So maybe revisit for those circumstances? who is to say the Leeds player would have been in right frame of mind to continue anyway who is to say that someone like robbo may not have done something in retaliation and the game escalates into carnage as the ref was letting a lot go? had this discussion with the ref in our game ironically on Sunday and the fa rules do leave wiggle room on the matter
the rules are 100% clear. tackle from behind = yellow. end of the rules for reckless ness and excessive force are what turns it red and where the wriggle room is. You can argue that the leeds guy flew in. he bounced up and chased the ball again such was his momentum and the force he bounced off elliott so I can see were people are talking about the red but for me its still a yellow. son indicent was complicated by the actual contact being form another spurs player who did actually continue. in short if refs blew up all tackles fomr behind and booked players they wouldn't make these challenges. the fact is the ref booked players for pulling back more than he booked for tackles as there were actually FEW challenges on the deck. most of the game is now pull and drag out of players and stay right side and just not let a guy go.
Mentioned that pass to a mate I was watching the game with, it allowed Matip to exploit the space in front of him and stretched Leeds.
It's amazing really that for fans who watched the assault on Virgil go unpunished, watch our players (mainly Salah and Mané) get wrestled to the ground, kicked, held and pulled every single game without the offenders getting so much as a glance from the referee, see our young 18 year old get a very serious, maybe, hopefully not, career altering injury and we are debating whether or not and how or if the offending player should be punished. We couldn't get any further from the 'victims' tag if we tried ...... really hard.
It's a good point you lads make. The difference between this team and last year is not only thiago but also matip and vvd who are willing to do more than snuggle it 5 yards. The further and more precise the ball goes the harder teams have it. The passing behind players and carrying it 5 yards then rolling it sideways is largely gone. Bye bye Nate, bye bye windy, bye bye Williams and kabak.
FA rules do cover it and below will be the reason for the red SERIOUS FOUL PLAY A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play. Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play. I remember quoting this repeatedly on PL board re the Pickford VVD incident as me and Donga took on and beat the whole board
But you're also forgetting that Pascal had both feet off the ground as well. It's a clear sending off.
That one is 1000 times worse than our one. Two footed, slides in full tilt.. The ref that didnt at least book the player should be dropped for the next game for reeducation.
